exhaust system question
« on: January 05, 2007, 08:04:02 PM »
I bought a used set of 4 into one pipes for my cb500 project. They arrived today.

They should work fine, but there is one area of concern. On the end of one of the header pipes (the part that installs into the exhaust manifold) part of the lip is missing (where it curls over). Could this be a major concern? I hope I am not looking at a pressure loss possibility because of it. If my description isn't clear enough I suppose I can take a picture of the area of concern.

I bought these from a guy over at the jockey journal for a good price ($75). The header pipe flares out to a canister baffle (made by Keag)

If I interprete you right, the one concern I would have would be noise/exhaust leak. (If there is no even surface or a broken surface coming against the seating in the head)

On the other hand, it is a good price if it is in good condition and welding that and grinding it flat should be a piece of cake, chrome on that surface would disappear but that part goes in the head anyway and gets hidden behind the collars etc.
