You're right. When I was in Vietnam we had 500,000 troops there and it didn't overwhelm anyone. A determined guerilla force is difficult, if not impossible to defeat. The more support they have locally, the more difficult it will be.

Too bloody right Bob, when I rule the world, I'll take all the "green" coalition forces out, and just send in groups of SF "guerrilla's", with air support, to do their "black" role.

That way there'd be no coalition troops on the ground for the locals to slag off and take pot-shots at, but at night, the insurgents would be feeling very uneasy, to say the least. Cheers, Terry. ;D

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I remember the Tet Offensive well, too well.  :( Everyone said "we" won that one. Tactically correct, but the bad guys won in the sense that they made their point. After so many years, American lives and $$'s, they were still able to put together one of the most widespread and well coordinated attacks ever. We were and are, whistling in the dark.

My wife just told me to get off the computer and go to bed, (it's 1 am here in the wonderful land of Oz) so I better get. Goodnight Bob! Cheers, Terry. ;D

History repeats itself because no one learns from it.  Isn't it interesting that a big reason we won the Revolutionary War that got this country started was because "we" used guerilla tactics and the British didn't know how to adjust their style. Or refused to...

Then of course there was Viet Nam.  But this isn't the same at all, is it.

Boy, I am really cynical and mad.  I'm signing off on this thread.  You Republicans (read "Real Americans!") can call me any names you want.  You win- I can't take it anymore.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

the only way to stop the insurgency is to kill them all......

that said we cant do that so staying is pointless, as terry said it is just 21000 more targets to shoot at

Just got off the phone with a good friend who's son just got extended over there.

Marine, Machine gunner on Humvee's.

I'm a firm believer that the military's job is to kill people and blow things up.

I sure hate to see those guys over there getting stuck being policemen and targets.
