Hello everybody. I've visited this site a few times now and think it is great so decided to join.
My first ever bike was a 400/4 which I sold after a lot of fun on it and bought a '76 550/4K.
I rode the 550 for about three years, doing the usual maintainance type things, when it started making a grinding noise on acceleration but not deceleration. Narrowed it down to a stretched primary drive chain rubbing on the oil journal in the lower crank case so took the bike off the road to repair 
After several changes in lifestyle, finances and spare time the bike is still in the garage after ten years 
I'm hoping to do some sorting out in the spring (bike is currently buried) and would very much love to get back on the road again so I've started reading up on things and am hoping to maybe pick up a few tips from this site or pick a few brains if necessary.
I haven't got any pictures of the bike to hand at the moment but I'll try and sort something out and post as soon as possible.

i like to hear that other people find interest in the bikes enough to keep them stashed away in a corner even if they aren't running at the moment... your moment was quite long but, oh well...

Having just checked the model guide on the website it turns out I have a '77 550k not a '76 one 
There is so much info here. Many thanks to all the people who have built up this knowledge base.

The K3 came along in '77 (in the UK anyway).

Here's mine:  CB550K3

Sold it earlier this year and bought the VFR.

Hello from bristol. only up the road, enjoy the digging out of your bike, mine was under a pile of junk in my garage for years, but hey it works now, sometimes i think my 400 mile x-mas day run has killed the chainset or clutch because it is making some nasty noises
