Stev-o's "Fiddy-dolla Special"!! - Now running!
« on: December 24, 2017, 10:48:03 AM »
Since wrapping up the "Big Bang" and Kaw H2 projects a couple months back, I took a break from projects. The H2 totally drained my bike fund but worth every penny, I love that bike.

So on to the next!   I bought this K5 roller a couple years back, cost me the grand sum of $50, hence the name "Fiddy-dolla Special"!

The plan here is to get a good riding roadworthy bike spending the least amount of dollars possible without sacrificing safety or cosmetics.
I will use as many parts I have on the shelf including a spare motor I have from a parts lot I bought several years ago.

Feast your eyes on this beauty....

good score. PO did a good job on the lightweight minimalistic approach. with a bit of buffing and an oil change that thing should sort itself out.

You should keep a running total on here of how much you spend so we can all see how low you can keep it.

Have fun with it and let me know if you need any parts. I don't think I have much left for a k5 anymore, but maybe some little stuff

With the skies open on the motor department, presuming it came without one it opens the doors to even dripping a Z motor in the Honda frame.  With the frames not being as flexible as the original it could be an interesting bike in comparison.  It would be especially fun if it were adaptable and could be a bolt-on setup...unlikely as that would be.

The Seeley and Rickman framed Kawasaki motored bikes being a better solution to a more rigid framed version, but also a more costly one.  My reference to SP is  Stev-o Power ....
Larry, given he has another is a VT titled bike, this could be another.

If a titled roller was Fiddy-dolla it was a pretty good deal.  Does it get very humid where you are in TX Steve? What major city are you closest to?

A good running engine is a must then. Only open and close one cost some in gaskets, o-rings and seals.

Since the fender is cut you could opt to build this one with painted or powder coated fenders and have freedom to paint a broader brush of color.

Or opt to do a carbon fiber fender using a reprofiled front on what you have into a eye-pleasing shape and layup the carbon on top of the original fender.

Does you wife ever ride with you? Either on a bike of her own or two up?

I never keep tabs on what I spend, the wife would flip if she saw it! [especially the H2] Plus I'm going to use as many parts on the shelf as possible so the cost would not be a good number to other enthusiasts unless they have a large parts hoard [like you and I!]

No title but paperwork already sent northward.
I'll let you know what parts I need, thx.

A good running engine is a must then. Only open and close one cost some in gaskets, o-rings and seals.

The spare motor earmarked for this bike already has the top end off.  Will most likely need a valve job and a re-ring, dont want to bore cylinders [$200] on this low budget bike.  Fairly certain I have a 836 piston kit on the shelf if need be...

Hey Ron....thinking about using the Blue bodywork that came off the "Big Bang Bike". No cost...

The more you look the more missing pieces you notice.  They did a through job of parting that one out.  Suprised they didn't sell the rear hub brake cover...

Your powder coating guy is going to have fun stripping that frame.  Will the powder fill the pitting without showing or are you going to need to use some stuff on those rusty pitted areas to make it smooth?

Hey John....the bike was listed on CL, I had met the seller previously when he sold me a 550 motor that was messed up. He incorrectly installed the head cover and bent the valves. I still have the motor, may use it on a 550 project next year.

Tear down is complete, I made quick work of it. But there wasnt much there!

Only problem I had was I broke my 12" adjustable wrench trying to take off the triple top, had to order a 30mm socket.

Waiting to hear back from my powder guy, hoping he can do it next week.

It possible could have but thanks to Prime shipping, the socket and replacement wrench were 30 bucks.   I have a lot of Craftsmen tools but that wasn't one of them. But then banging on a adj wrench with a frigging sledge hammer trying to loosen a rusted on nut isn't exactly the recommended method!    Socket with a long breaker bar loosened it in 5 seconds.....
