yeah, I really got to pick up a 30mm myself as I am always doing the same thing...using the british standard wrench on a jap bike

no idea where to buy keeper hand tools these days with Sears gone

I have purchased  quality tools at local auctions.  Mac and  Snap On at more than reasonable prices.  Harbor Freight tools are guaranteed-  I bought a metric 3/4 drive socket set that included a ratchet, breaker bar, couple extensions and at least 10 sockets for $39.  Not the greatest quality but certainly fit my needs for large metric sockets and I doubt I could have bought one Snap On socket for that price...Larry

Following........Budget builds are always inspiring as I'm on a slim budget too.

So all my bikes sit till I can come up with the funds. Little bit at a time.

If you recall, I broke my 12" adjustable wrench trying to get the top triple off.
Guess hitting the wrench with a big friggin sledge hammer is not the recommended method, even if the wrench in Made in Japan!

So the replacement I bought [$12 shipped Amazon Prime] is a Stanley and of course made in China but does have a lifetime warranty.  I typically only used that wrench for the top triple and rear axle, but I have a 30mm impact socket for the triple now.
I really like the grip on the Stanley....

Really had a hard time trying to remove the tubes from the lower triple. Turns out the gators rubbery material morphed into a tough plastic over the years, I have never seen this before!  I literally had to chip the gator with a hammer claw to get it to break and then the tube slid out.

I then set up this special "jig" to drive the race off the bottom of the triple...

And heres the fork ear Johnnie said is a keeper!  Should buff right out?

He was right, along with some JB Weld to hold it together, you'll be good to go.  Did you try heat gun on those gaiters?...Larry

Looks like fun. The front fender reminds me of the triple cut that came on my K0. It was a double cut then the po cut it again. L0L!

Great day in Central Texas today, not only is the weather perfect at 67* and sunny, but I picked up my frame that was blasted and has fresh luscious powder!

But it came at a cost, I paid twice as much for the powder than I did for the bike!
But I think it was a great deal at 100 bucks, so now the tally is up to $150.

Then after checking my mailbox, an envelope addressed to me arrived from up north.
The bike is now registered but still along way off from being road ready. Add $132.

All in all, a great day.

Thx, I love the Z1!   I had a '78 1000 LTD back then, it was a great bike.  But when I wanted another a few years ago, it had to be the Big Boy Z1...

Ahh..  I was looking at the fender flair for a clue.  She's a beauty.  Here's a pic of my '68 with a 327/4 spd.  I've owned it for 42 years.

Very nice Larry!  Wow...42 years, that a long time to own a car.

Yes, I read they added the rear fender flare to prevent rock chips.

My buddy has a '68 convertible too, but with a 454 BB in it.  I'm happy to be in your club!

Do you need some headlight ears? I have some from my K3. Chrome is not very good but the metal is sound.
Very cheap, I can ship in a flat rate box from here on Maui.

I seem to recall having a set I replaced on my K4 "Big Bang" but one was slightly bent.  Let me check and I'll get back to you.

Anyone else with cheap, good parts?

Picked up more parts with fresh powder....he only want 30 bucks, I gave him 40! So +$40.

Love fresh powder.....

I even had him do my rusty ol' pry bar that I left out in the rain.
Not sure why he powder'd it that color, but who am I to complain?!
