Tank painting and the poor man's paint booth !!Now w/ PICS!!
« on: December 30, 2006, 07:57:53 PM »
I asked a few weeks ago about how to strip off the paint from the side panels (http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=16580.0).

Well, I got 'em stripped and I stripped the atank as well. All the way down to the metal. Did some body work to fill in the crimp around the edge. Gave it four coats of OMNI single stage paint with a wet-sand between the second and third coats to get rid of a run I had.  :-\

The side panels get sprayed tomorrow.  ;D

I built up a paint booth out of some 25x100 ft. plastic sheeting and a box fan. It actually works pretty well. When you're poor, you do some real MacGyver type stuff. a :D

I picked up a set of clip-ons from ebay as well as a new headlight mount from mikesxs.com. Still looking for a nice set of turn signals.

I'll post up pics when I get home.

NIce tank.  That's on my project list also and I may be copying your 'booth'.

Nice Job!    8)

Is that in your basement?   If so how bad did it stink up your house???

I am getting close to painting my tank, seat, and covers as well.   Would like to do it myself but it is real cold in my garage this time of year.

I'm actually back home in Atlanta. It's chilly here. ~50 degrees in the garage basement. To help w/ drying, after the paint has started to cure (a day or two) I brought it inside the house. Nice and warm 70.

So, is it ok to apply paint in 40-50 degrees just so long as it cures at a higher temp?    I really want to paint my own stuff but don't want to do it in my house.... :-\

I haven't run into any problems with it. Just make sure to use "fast" catalyst and reducer.
