Finally! A new Royal Enfield Interceptor
« on: November 14, 2017, 04:42:41 PM »
I was just giving the RE guys #$%* at Motoblot in June that RE needed to bring out a new Interceptor so that Triumph wasn't the only option.

Wish granted: https://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/twins/interceptor

In typical RE fashion it will be underpowered relative to it's competition, but it should be very reasonably priced too.

There is a big version of the Continental GT too

looks kind of odd with the frame loop hanging that far out the back of the seat and the square tank doesn't look as nice as the interceptor one

and 46hp isn't too bad for a little bike like that, i'm sure there are more little horsies waiting to get out from inside the cases
i blame Terry

I agree, the frame sticking out past the seat does look odd. The bike is fuel injected and has an 8 valve head, so there should be some additional power available with a power commander and better exhaust.

I saw these in the latest Australian Motorcycle Trader a week or two ago, if the prices are as cheap as Indian bikes should be, I'd be interested! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I hadn't seen anything here in the US. I only heard because something snuck into my YouTube feed. I'm even on RE USA's e-mail list and didn't see anything.

One article said $5,000 - $7,000 in the US.  No idea what that would be in Roo-bucks, but not bad for a new bike.

That is a good price range,  I just hope the engines are a bit better sorted than RE's last attempt at a big twin.;D

It looks like this one is based on the new 420cc single that powers the Himalaya adventure bike.

It should definitely be better than the split cylinder twin that powered the original Interceptors.

I am a bit disappointed that they settled on 650cc rather than 750. I guess that just leaves room for a nice big bore kit upgrade.

Ha ha, I thought the same thing! I hope there's plenty of meat in the cylinder liners! ;D

Power is similar to the CB550 but it is not in same stratosphere since it is developing its power at 7100 rpm for its 47 bhp. Given the CB550 creating its hp at higher revs.  This RE will be more like thumpers in power delivery...but they have implied they designed it to deliver the torque across the rev range.

How long before the bike is up for motorcycle press review? Any idea?  You could give several a call to see if they have any press dates set. Motoring press generally have the motorcycle company typically set a date and location for the press writers to have a brief ride and look at the new bike along with their presentation about the bike. They are generally a first look at the bike and very short hands-on riding.

I am liking that a vertical twin, is being brought out, once again and,
like some, I was hoping for, at least a 750 was coming again, but at least it is a start. We will just have to see how it goes.

I thought you might be interested Bill, don't you have a bit of a history with Royal Enfields under the Indian brand? ;D

My Granddad had the franchise for the Indian/Enfields, For Central Arkansas, After Indian itself, went under. The Certain models Of The Enfields, were rebadged as Indians (Chief, Apache, Trail Blazer, Tomahawk, Woodsman, Fire Arrow, Hounds Arrow, Lance & A Servicecar W/ a 500cc Single motor. This went on from 1955-1958 or 59. Then My Granddad ended up with BSA, Jawa/CZ/ESO & Royal Enfield, Until 1967, when he passed away. I Always wanted a 1957 Apache or a mid 60's Enfield Interceptor. But Wasn't old enough or big enough, in the 1950s or early 1960s. I Have The Repair or Overhaul Manuals for the Indian Enfields though

When I was a little boy around 1970 or so my dad restored a British Indian, a 250cc I think.
