CB500 K0 Swing Arm Bushings, and Swing Arm Installation
« on: December 29, 2017, 12:55:53 pm »
I am rebuilding this bike, and I have not ridden it, so I don't know how it handles.

The swing arm bushings come out easily, with just a little friction.  Is that a sign that they need to be replaced?  I don't own a micrometer.

Also, how do you fit the swing arm back in its place on the frame?  The clearance seems to be way too tight.  I read somewhere on this forum that one person uses an automotive scissor jack to spread the frame.  I am concerned that could crack or bend the frame.

I think that if you need a hydraulic jack to get the swingarm in .... you may have other issues.

If the engine is in the frame loosen the rear mounting bolts.

Yes. Then reconnect the rear shocks loosely to the swingarm and use a scissors jack or blocks of wood to position the front of the swingarm  to the correct height. Then push forward and wiggle side to side and it should go in. It can be a bugger.
