Newbie saying hi from Newcastle UK
« on: December 31, 2017, 09:48:03 AM »
Hi, new to the site so just checking in. I live half of my time in the UK and half in France, where I ride a Bonneville Bobber and a Yam R1 track bike. I need a project when I'm in the UK so I'm looking for a 70s Honda 4 as a restoration or cafe racer project, depending on the condition of whatever I buy. I have my eyes on a CB550 at the moment but it's not definite as the cost of original (repro) exhaust systems is putting me off buying it to restore. Is there a repro Yoshi system available, if so the bike might be the basis for a nice cafe racer?

I'm sure I'll be around to ask more questions, whichever CB I end up buying.

Hello from the other side of the Pond,  NE Minnesota,

I don't know how much it would cost but if the outer shell looks reasonable you might find someone to rebuild it.  The one I put on my bike in the late 80's has a rusted thin collar.  I plan on rebuilding it some time along with the rusted collector on the manifold pipes.

Have fun,  keep  posting so you can put pictures on.

Unfortunately MD, the system on this particular bike is after-market so there's nothing to rebuild from. I'm not going to put a £1000+ repro 4 into 4 system on to a £1300 bike so a full resto wouldn't be an option. The only mention I can find on the Internet of a repro Yoshi system is over there so cost + shipping for that is likely to be prohibitive too. Think I'll have to look at getting one made but that won't be cheap either!

Thanks. Motad seem good value but not the style I'm looking for.
