CB550 Valve (cylinder) cover differences?
« on: January 17, 2018, 10:25:32 AM »
Hi
I have a k3 and am looking for a new valve cover for it, I see on ebay a valve cover series B and a valve cover series A.  What are the differences?

The covers are interchangeable. The difference is that the rocker shafts on the '77 and '78 covers have pins in them that prevent them from rotating whereas the 74-76 covers don't and over time the action of the rockers by the cams can cause the shaft to move and elongate the holes that it sits in, making it basically impossible to properly adjust the valves.

Why do you think you need a new one?

I cracked one of the fastener tabs.  Been trying to find someone local to weld it for me, but I'm moving to SoCal in the next few months I may just wait till I get there.

Micro welding expert can do it and he is a member here.  Send it off to him and you will not be disappointed. Drawing a blank on his name... sorry...trouble with names.  Want to say Jim.

Jim French maybe?
