Honda Nighthawk 650SC 1982 / Starter Clutch
« on: January 03, 2007, 10:55:43 AM »
Hi all.  I'm in the midst of taking off my starter clucht to put in new rollers and springs.  I've taken off the clutch cover and am ready to remove the clutch basket.  Is this the route to the starter clutch or can I get at the primary drive another, easier way?  I can see the little monster when I take off the oil pan, but it looks like I'm going to have to rip apart a lot to get at it.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  Thanks a ton!

There was a whole write up on this very subject including pictures on the old CB650 web site (which is no longer around). Maybe someone here still has access to this. Using this method, one did not need to split the cases to replace the springs and dogs, access was from the bottom and the trick was to remove three screws from the clutch side so the assembly droped from the bottom.

Nope, the CB650 site is still around, it's just taken a new name.

I have a 81 (thanks dad) that needs a starter clutch.  So the last parts bike I had I went after it.
Yes it is removable but it takes work and patience.  Had the frame/engine rolling around on floor.
