New Project
« on: January 04, 2018, 08:05:37 AM »
I bought this one about a month ago for 150.00. New battery, oil change, clean carbs, and clean and set points had it running. Engine sounds good but it needs plenty of cosmetic work. It looks to like one that was chopperized before it left the dealer - 6 over tubes, pullback bars, Corbin seat, and Jardine 4 into 2 pipes. Only showing 22,000 miles but who knows.

Nice! What year is it, has to be 1971-74, and does it have a standard rear wheel i.e. 17 or 18" rim? I would either get rid of the chopper tubes, or pull them up 6" in the triple trees and put clip on handlebars on for a set of short ape hangers... lol just kidding. A chopper is all in personal taste, but you will find it a challenge to sit upright, as the lean is considerable with those tubes. I would put it back stock, myself..
Good deal though for $150!!!

That color of red is either a 75 or 76. Blinkers are 74 or earlier. Might be a bitsa.

Can’t be, it’s a 550 and not made until 74. 500 was 71-73.

...hehe yep its a bitsa for sure, but I am thinking a 74 or earlier, need to see the instruments, as they look like the 'ring' mounting as on the early ones.

It’s a 75 but came with an extra tank from a 76. The petcock threads on the tank, that is on it in the picture, have been epoxied up badly

Not sure how I’m going to go with it. It has an 18” rear wheel, I’ll need to replace the rim and spokes, lots of rust and pitting. For now I’ll leave the tubes on it. I’ve had most styles of bikes over the years, they all have their quirks.
