CB550 cafe racer newby
« on: January 06, 2018, 12:14:15 PM »
Hi. I owned a CB550 around 1990. Was looking for a CB550 for a cafe racer project last year and found one 90% complete (at least I thought it was 90%). Is now fairly well sorted, looking good and running well (have to confess I outsourced most of the work). Throttle sticking when the engine is hot, need to figure this out. Maybe linked to softer spring I installed in the carb as the original spring was very stiff and throttle was hard to twist.

Hi JB,
Nice to see you have returned to the SOHC bikes! I am also new to the SOHC CB750K1 I just acquired, and am learning a lot about it. I am not new to bikes, just these lol... So, have you figured out why the throttle sticks yet? It seems odd that it only sticks when hot, does it just not idle down? Sometimes this can be due to a lean condition, if it 'hangs' the throttle, and then slowly idles down. However, if yours doesn't idle down at all, it could be a mechanical issue. Let us know how you are doing!

Thanks Gents! I have lubed the moving bits at the carbs and will see if that helps. Need to go for a decent ride again to see if it makes a difference. If the problem is not sorted I will have a look at what happens down at the carbs when the throttle hangs to establish whether it is mechanical or an ignition issue.
