Easy on/off Footwear
« on: January 04, 2018, 07:52:43 PM »
Sad day. My favorite garage flip-flops have finally given up the ghost. They were from The Gap and purchased some years back and they have gone everywhere with me and have even been through a few of my Honda CB rebuilds. I think it’s finally time for a replacement, unfortunately.

My fine tiny garage setup allows access to the inside of my living room space so there’s a frequent coming in and going out aspect to my building and process. Of course safety is important but I also want the ease of putting on and taking off my footwear because I generally withhold to a strict standard of a no-shoes policy inside my place.

I’ve been eyeing Crocs because they slip on and they cover your toes, but gawd are they ugly. I know I’m in my garage but dayum, can’t a brotha look good in his own abode? Should I even care about such things?

I’ve been able to swap out engines in my flip-flops so clogs or any type of footwear covering my toes would be an upgrade.

Stay away from the crocs...don't go to the dark side
I too am forbidden footwear in the house so I have a pair of elastic sided steelcap work boots outside each door, only taken a couple of seconds to pull on and there's no danger of ever being seen wearing any form of rubber underwear , oops I mean shoes ( I hate flip-flops as much as crocs)
i blame Terry

ill tinker around in the shed wearing what we call "thongs"here in Australia, they call em "flip flops' in some places and "jandles"in new Zealand, lotta work sites here don't allow elastic sides they gotta be lace up for ankle support safety #$%*(ive never liked elastic work boots anyway),I get these supplied from my work place, zipper side and lace up to get that balance of tension you like, man if I walk in the house with boots on its #$%*ing world war 10 by now!i have a far more comfortable pair in lace up but these are so easy for on/off.

Hey those look kinda like Romulan after-battle wear! Pretty Spacey for sure (not Kevin Spacey) hehe...
I wear Adidas slip on wear, with the wide Velcro strap across the top. Nike makes them too, I have a pair of each that I take with me when I am using a common shower area like at Mid-Ohio's shower room lol. They are great for kicking around the shop or basement too!

Check out Oofos, like walking on a cloud. Provides at least as much safety to your footware choice as your previous pair.  ;)

This is classic! Totally agree. I guess I would be nervous with anything open since I am always machining or doing some such with metal chips everywhere. Just tinkering around, wear whatever you please.

Dig deep in the bottom of your closet and find old boots or shoes then convert them to slip-on?

I have 2 pair of these, a little pricey........daughter bought the first pair for fathers day coupla years back and then new ones on my birthday just past.

So old ones are the whatever shoes and the news ones are my regular wear one.

Slip on, slip off real easy. Socks, no socks, just as comfortable.

Love these things.

I really dig those leopard creeper slip-ones but I think I’m liking what bwaller recommended with the Oofos. A bit on the steep side price-wise but hope these last a while. Thanks, all!

Spenco, the insole company that make very nice non-custom orthotic insoles or for high arches, etc. ...actually made sandals that are blue and the foot bed is great, conforms nicely to your feet and it is a very soft sole that is dense enough to protect your feet from anything you step on, within reason...

They are blue and a slip-on design, no annoying strap between your toes. Made with anti-bacterial material and easy maintenance if you wear them outside and get them dirty, short wash later they are ready for more.

I use them as shower shoes when traveling or at the gym after a workout or public pools, and house shoes.

Merrill makes very nice footwear and they durable as well.  Keen is another brand to check, they may have something you might like.
Not sure if Merrill still makes their sandals, have a pair many years old now and they had a buckle around the back of the ankle.  Keen is likely to be a better and easier brand to find in sandals.
My brother wears Keen shoes and many are quasi outdoorsy and he wears them without socks year round and they have vent holes in the sides.

You need a pair of these steel capped thongs, flip flops.
I love wearing my regular non steel capped ones, however they do have the bad habit of breaking at the worse possible time.
I had a pair (well one of em) break at an international cricket game. Oh boy! it was no fun going to the dunnies with a half inch of urine all over the floor in bare feet.
