I think that most of us can agree that today's aftermarket points for CB750s are poor quality. I decided to use the cheap points for parts. I retained the original TEC breakers but riveted on the new phenolic blocks. The picture illustrates the worn original as well as the slop that the originals had. The new one is tight, and as I found out yesterday, not coming apart anytime soon.

Nice if just the wear block is EOL. Could a block be fabricated (ie with a file and a lump of phenolic) so you don't need to buy a donor points assembly and encouraging the manufacturer to continue making bad sets?
Most I see have the contacts damaged - you can dress them but only so many times. Even with a perfect condensor there's a bit of spark erosion happening unless you use HM's buffer unit or equivalent. I've also seen the spring broken from (I guess) metal fatigue.

I will not rest before I have set the world record using the same breakerpoints. I'm at around 57.000 km now and these TEC points still show no wear worth mentioning. They happily serve up to into redzone. Halfway their life I installed a homebuilt transistor ignition module so no more sparking at the breakerpoints. But even in stock configuration they go a long, loooong way.

My intention is to extend the service life of these points. I have had good luck buying used TEC points that have very serviceable contacts, but the rubbing blocks are worn. I believe that the worn blocks throw off the ability to properly time the ignition. I would rather fix the issue than just trash good parts that can be fixed.

There you go! Ingenuity at its best. I was reading some on dual springing the points so that they work reliably in high RPM situations, anyone here ever done that? I suppose it would make the phenolic blocks wear even faster...?

It really wouldn't be hard to double spring them while they are apart. I would have to imagine they would wear faster. But if your needing that much spring pressure, I think things would be coming apart for rebuild faster anyway...
