Disassembled carb1st time. A little guidance needed. Thanks
« on: November 10, 2017, 10:51:27 AM »
Where do I get these?

https://imgur.com/a/0Di40
They are connecting a vacuum line it looks like.

And to get in there I have to get one of these springs off I believe but not sure which or both:

Thanks. That should get me forward a few steps, hopefully all the way to the end. And thanks to "Sean Grier" whoever that is that wrote this guide I found online.

Juntjoo, I recent posted a similar post. The advice I was given was to use original brass if at all possible. Only replace the rubber/seals. I’m not sure if the search still works but the post was something like To rebuild or not to rebuild... it has good advice and links.

To update:

There's this little hard plastic sleeve that I found broken after taking apart carb not sure of it's origin.

https://imgur.com/a/NmwEm

Might these parts be related? Take note of the little broken black part. Finally, whatever it is, so far I've found it $40 in this ebay listing:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F221116737182

But I don't know 100% that is that little part in that pack. Can anyone identify and explain what this part is and if I need to replace it? You know, cuz sometimes they put stuff in there for decoration, like tonsils. Thanks

The little black part appears to be the flexible boot for the accelerator pump actuator rod.  I got mine from sirius.inc along with a new accelerator pump diaphram.

Thanks. Do you have the same carbs as me? This is confusing. Mine is not flexible or rubber. It is plastic. I don't know where it came from and I can't see where it would go. Where does yours go? For mine I don't think anything would fit inside this pump/diaphragm at the base of the rod. As far as outside at the end of the rod, I suppose it could fit there, but for what purpose? It it sits against a lever part of some spring loaded component. If I had to guess, as I don't know ow how these work, I'd guess that lever presses on the rod pushing it to make way for extra fuel to enter. Is that right? If so and this hard plastic piece fits on the end, I'd guess... Idk really. If the rod needs a shoe or some sort I could put something a lot cheaper than a whole new unnecessary accelerator pump.

How do I figure out what this piece is and if I need to replace it, and if so how? I haven't found in any manual online or off what exactly this piece is for or where exactly it fits and what exactly it does.

Anyone know?

Thanks. Do any of these cover the cv carbs? I believe I've got that right. Constant velocity, with the round caps with the cylinders underneath?

Update: been studying a bit and now I think I know how that accelerator pump works. I thought initially that spring went underneath the diaphragm, which it obviously doesn't. So got that figured out and mechanically it works right so I guess the parts I'm  missing are a dust boot and o-ring/grommet for the hole the rod goes through maybe. Is that what this diaphragm rod needs to keep dirt out? Either way I need some instruction on this, how and where it's supposed to install if anyone can help with this.

And one last thing that I mentioned before, this carb set came with three of those cv springs. That can't be right. Someone must have fallen asleep rebuilding these right?

It is generally not necessary to completely disassemble the carbs. Some parts can be difficult to get back together and nothing is gained by removing them.

any opinions on these and what are the difference between them if any? out of all that I've found off ebay I chose these as they have the most included o-rings while others have less than half included. How many do I need exactly? And do these with extra include the o-rings for the fuel tubes?

If all you need is the seals, then Honda OEM #16010-460-305 gasket set is ideal. This has all seals for one carb, including the fuel tube ones.
Assuming your carbs' brass parts are good - and they wear very slowly - carefully clean and re-use the originals. The float valve may be a bit tired. Honda also sells these individually but their price is not cheap, a full aftermarket "rebuild kit" including it can be cheaper than just the OEM valve. I recommend using the real Honda part though.

thanks. hopefully someone who's bought these cheaper kits is in here and can testify to their integrity or lack thereof as OEM is pretty expensive

my Sumo kits look good and everything fits all for under $50 right here in amurica.havent got it all together yet as I'm still cleaning it but I'm wondering if should I spend $60 or so on one of these carb sync tools? Or wait first to see how it runs after just a bench sync? Should I expect to find one handy very often thhroughout my ownership of this bike or just bikes in general(its my very 1st ;)). Im leaning towards yes and I always enjoy me a new cool tool especially if I'll be using it at least once a year. Otherwise what's it cost a mechanic? Less than $200 every couple years might work. idk. you tell me

Found these at the local big box hardware store.  I didn't want to buy one of those whole sets that include screws for the whole carb. And these fit with "2.5" size allen tool.  I'm guessing that means 2.5mm.

btw anyone know how to get the img tag to work?  I thought it wasn't working just because I was on my phone, so I just tried it last post on my pc and apparently it's not working.   Isn't this html tag supposed to display the target pic on the page?  I'm using the little button in the edit mode to throw up the code.  Maybe that's the problem. Maybe if I do it manually...
