What I take from the article is from the cheapest sfi/dot helmet to the most expensive (made of fiberglass/composite) the difference is mostly trim and convienience features like shields, mounts and visors. When you get into carbon fiber and nomex is when you see a reduction in weight.
 Also the best helmets are the ones where the outer shell is made for the internal size and not where one shell is used for many sizes.

Speaking of helmets.i was looking at snell m2015 helmets yesterday and the price swings on them was mind boggling.

 I asked about helmets recently, the thread can't be too far down.  Some of the guys thought I was cheaping out at $350. Maybe so. Like the old proverbial Bell helmet ad said, if you have a $9 head buy a $9 helmet. lol.
 
 I'm still leaning toward an Impact or Simpson. One concern I had is the window size on a full face auto racing helmet. I had one and it restricted side vision on the street. That may be OK on the drag strip but not with intersections and traffic.
 I'm going SA2015 so it's fire resistant. SM2015 is motorcycle type with a standard interior. 

 I wish my driver/daughter wore the same size helmet as me, I'd take hers and buy her an even more expensive (Carbon) one. This year our Helmet, seatbelts, flywheel, bellhousing, trans case and I'm sure something else's certification expires.
