They never seem to shift like butter on three bench, at least I have never had one that would.

Well two more days of tinkering and no luck. Had some issues with wiring and no spark, but seem to have those under cintrol. New gas, cleaned carb, but this thing WON'T fire. Is it possible to install something backwards or 180 as to not fire at the correct times?

Are you getting any spark at all? If you are then it is probably a timing issue, if not then you need to dig into the wiring.

What else have you done to it apart from the tranny?

I've been working to adjust timing. I'll keep at it today. I am getting spark, yes.

It might be possible to be 180* out if you confused the #1 & #2 cylinders when you put the cam chain on. It would make it fire on the exhaust stroke instead of intake stroke. Just for S&G are the plug wires long enough to switch to the opposite sides?

Hmmmmm interesting thought. I never took the cam chain off. Wonder if I have the wires in the wrong spot...

No difference. Can opening up the bottom of the case possibly impact the opening and closing of valves? I also should check tappets.

If the entire top end stayed intact I don't see how anything would change.

You say it has spark, are the plugs getting wet? Fuel/Air/Ignition------has to be one of those 3 things.

Evidently it can. I don't know how it could have changed if you didn't pull the top end apart, it was running before the trans work, right?

Maybe with the key off hook an ohm meter to the points and rotate the motor by hand. As soon as the meter shows open that is when it fires. Check where the timing marks are at and that may point you in the right direction.

REMEMBER KEY OFF you don't want power going through the ohm meter.

Got it. Timing is now dead on. Gonna give the battery a little charge and see what we can do. Also gonna check the tappets just to be sure. Really stumped!

Adjusted all valve check timing again, clean carb again, charge battery. It won't even pop. I'm totally and completely stumped.
