But then I see these.....

I plan on a street Hot Rod Motor but no racing . Which is better set up? 1) Filter adapter with spin on?
2) Plumb it into the oil lines to and from tank?

Swoop,

That's a Moto GP Werks exhaust. They're made over in Orange County and they are BADASS!!!

I have one installed on my CB550 and it sounds just as good as it looks! Only a dozen or so are made every year, and the price point is pretty reasonable given the quality.

It's a two part system that, if I take the muffler off I can put a center stand on my bike which is nice.
Only drawback is that I have to take the entire system off to change my oil filter..

Still... Worth it!

Pretty overpriced in my opinion. Get a proper cooler like a Setrab and if you want to go a bit cheaper the adapter from Randakks. If you want to go all out plumb right to the tank.

Yes thats the one. I am running the 13 row on my race bike, but probably overkill for the street. You could go one smaller and still get all the benefit.

That will do. You will need their adapters which come in a bunch of sizes. I am running -10 on my race bike but lots of guys use -8.

One more question please. Opinions about cycle x filter adapter for the oil cooler?

Looks like a nice piece of kit. The oil filter ones bleed off some oil to cool and then send it back through, while plumbing it through the oil tank will take all the oil through the cooler. Not sure which is better but it looks more thought out to run through the oil tank.

That makes sense. I still like the idea of a better filter spin on.

Funny enough i have the same Andrews motorsports adapters and an old lockhart cooler plate sitting on my desk and im trying to decide how to proceed:

-Setrab 1 series 10 row or a Earls curved 10 row

-Return line cooling using the Andrews adapters (only issue is tying the AN hoses back into the oil tank...)

-Lockhart adapter (filter housing wont fit under my Early Hindle exhaust)

I know the Lockhart style will work without problems but i will need a different exhaust, Im leaning towards the return line style but concerned with the fluid mechanics behind it all as its not a widely used style of setup and i can't find hardly any info other than some CR750 photos

What I miss in this thread is a table of temperatures, before and after, under what circumstances at what speed, etc. So far I cannot see anything else than a cosmetic change.

Not really that hard. Just make sure the cooler is after oil flow through the engine and before the oil tank.

I have actually talked to Setrab and they recommended the 1 series 10 or 13 row. Or alternately the 6 series 10 row. This was in reference to a moderate 836cc build that tends to get hot when its above 80 deg f when ridden hard or after sitting in traffic. last summer when it was over 100 deg you could only ride about 30 to 40 minutes in city traffic before oil temps in the tank were over 275deg f and the bike had to be parked and let cool as it was getting into overheat. Alternately when over 100 deg F if you took it on a nice easy country ride and rarely stopping id see oil temps at 230 - 240 which is still ok but on the higher side. A little spirited riding and that would peak over 275 and it would take quite a while of easy riding to bring that back down. My engine just needs a little helping hand and that should be enough i figure if you have a 1150cc big bore monster your gonna need a bigger cooler....

This is ridiculous. How could it not be effective? They are designed specifically for this task and if you run all of your oil through them instead of the bleed off system it should make a noticeable difference.

the oil in the cooler might drop a little temp for the short time its there but as soon as its back into the motor itll be just as hot as it was.

This is also ridiculous. The constant flow of your entire engine oil supply through a cooler is going to cool it. And it will stay cooler longer since it is housed in an external oil tank, rather than the bottom end.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.
