Initial modifications up to October 2017:
Black engine case covers, inspection covers, valve cover, throttle body covers, heel guards, sprocket cover
Fender eliminator (needs to be shortened further)
Smaller LED indicators/signals
Flyscreen
Vance & Hines slip-ons (db inserts removed)

The next mods will be ceramic coating the exhaust headers and slipons.

I was not a huge fan of the yellow on the bike, and wanted to individualize my bike from any other being purchased.  I haven't seen anyone "black out" the suspension of a Thruxton R.  My idea is that the color will come from the tail, tank, sidecovers and front fender.  I have a complete spare set of bodywork, and I am trying to come up with a new paint scheme which will constitute the pop of color for the bike.

Yes, a night and day difference.  With my engine mods, my 750 was not anemic in acceleration.  The Thurxton is not a lightweight bike, but it is much more balanced.  Heck, just moving the bike around when parked is easier than the 750.   The Thruxton feels lighter (likely a lower center of gravity), and it tips into turns easier and sharper.  Even with all of my suspension upgrades (GL1000 front resprung with valve emulators and IKON rear shocks), the 750 felt stiff and almost prone to understeer by comparison.  The Thruxton stops on a dime in comparison to the dual GL calipers, new pads and EBC floating rotors.  I haven't ridden the Thruxton extensively in the wet, but the Thruxton does have a rain riding mode that adjusts/reduces power for safety.  I tend to ride the bike mostly in Sport mode (same power as regular but quicker response).  The ABS is nice to have and it works, as I have once triggered it when a car dashed into my lane.

I found a spare set of front forks for sale (owner upgrading suspension) for $200 and had them anodized black.  I purchased the rear black Ohlins shocks from Spiegler.  I have all of the original parts in case I want to convert the bike back (or fore selling off).  This also includes a barely used swingarm I purchased for a little over $100.

Great looking bike! Cool to make it your own by changing the colors - personally I like the gold/yellow with the red better than the black, though.
But that's what it is all about -personal taste.

Thanks.  My goal was to make it slightly unique versus every other one out in the wild. 

I just got the ECU re-mapped (pursuant to a factory recall) and it's running even better.

Really nice bike! What you've done to it is a nice improvement. I was looking at an r9t racer at the dealer the other day. That's another good looking factory cafe racer.

I love the look of the R Nine T Racer.  I wish they didn't downgrade the front forks and brakes.  I suppose you could swap out the front.

My buddy has a regular R Nine T (Roadster). He actually swapped out the Sachs (non-adjustable) forks and the rear shock for Ohlins.  $$$$ but a big improvement in handling.  I rode it before and after and it made a significant difference.

I agree. BMW watered down the suspension on the "Racer" variant quite a bit. I wish they would have given it the USD forks from the other models. Also, I rode the racer and to me, the fairing is a little too low. Not only does it not look right, it is completely useless.

Unless you can hold a true racer tuck flat against the tank the fairing is useless on the R Nine T.  Also on the Triumph Thruxton. 

My buddy who has the R Nine T has the aluminum seat cowl (which provides a nice bump stop for your ass) and the Ohlins.  Our bikes are pretty much evenly matched performance-wise.

I sat on one at the Chicago MC show a couple weekends ago. It is a fantastic looking bike, but the riding position is so extreme I would be in debilitating pain after only a few miles.

The Ducati Sport Classic S was notorious for that, too.  Beautiful but hard to ride longer distances.  The standard Roadster R Nine T is pretty comfortable by comparison.

One of the things that Triumph really did well with this bike is the gas tank.  I've been toying with ideas of painting the tank and other bodywork (seat cowl, headlight nacelle, fender, side covers), incorporating the red (and maybe black and silver), but I haven't seen anything that light my world on fire.  I don't want the retro 60s 2-tone paint job, but don't want something too modern either. It's just paint but I don't want to pull the trigger unless I love it.

New mod -- fairing.  Installation took nearly 3.5 hours (22 pages of instructions) and that was with a crap ton of help from my painter buddy buddy.
