OK... the Firestone Deluxe Champion tire comes in 16" and 18" rear tire sizes, with the widest being a 5.00-16 tire. This will necessarily mean lacing up a 16" rim, or purchasing a whole rim and hub already laced up. A popular old school thing was to lace up a Harley rim. The 4.50-18" rear is also available, largest size for an 18" rim. Again, find a rim that you can swap out onto his hub, or find a whole rim and hub assembly already done. Is this till a drum brake rear, I take it? If so, the least amount of work would be to find a hub/rim assembly that would work, and swap out the sprocket carrier if you have the 10mm offset sprocket on the '77 Cb750. Then purchase the Firestone for it.
THEY ALSO HAVE A 4.00-19, WHICH BRINGS US TO THE INSANE RIM SIZE OF 19" FOR THE BACK LOL... so, there are options.
I personally, wouldn't lace a rim when there are used rim/hubs out there for modest pricing. Find him a good rim and hub assembly, mount the 4.50-18" or the 5.00-16" and get him the 4.00-19 for the front. If he doesn't want to mess with fenders, they do make a 3.25-19 front also, and that might be the best one of the bunch. For a good handling bike with the look he wants, go with the 3.25-19 front and the 4.50-18 rear. My thoughts... have fun!
