Painting cb400f engine
« on: January 19, 2018, 03:27:46 PM »
Hello, the engine is looking tatty, yellowing and peeling I have nearly done getting the paint off to bare metal.
I was going to use carplan aluminium paint as you don't have to prime the aluminium, but the dirt doesn't seem to wipe off very well.
I want to brush the paint on, does anyone know of decent aluminium paint you can clean?
Would I use an enamel? Like por15?
Also do I need to use an etch primer or if I clean the engine good enough will the paint stick OK to bare aluminium?
Thanks

A much easier way - Get a can of PlastiKote 282 Aluminum Rebuilders Cast spray paint. Can be had at Amazon - usually hard to find in normal retail outlets.  It is temperature tolerant.

Do a bit of masking before spraying - use a q-tip and lacquer thinner to clean any over spray.  Looks exactly like the factory finish.
