They don't ever match - ok, maybe a few do match but it wasn't intentional. There is no way to tell if an engine was original unless the numbers are super different or don't match model and year, or if original documentation listing both is available. Engines and frames were made separately and no effort was made to match them.

This chart gets posted a lot and is handy to have for someone going to look at a possible purchase. These are probably for USA bikes though, where are you located ?  http://www.hondachopper.com/engine/engine_timeline/timeline.html

Yep, if Hondachopper's info is correct, he would have a '75 engine in there.

from soch4 site info

CB750 K4   1974   Jun 1973 – May 1974   E2300001   frame: 2300001
CB750 K5   1975   May – Dec 1974   E2372115   frame: 2500001

looks like a 74 to me, hard to believe that frame got one of the first 100 or so motors
from the 75 batch as a replacement, but its good information
when reading the supplement in the manual

is there a vin plate, whats the production date? m/yy, upper right corner
