‘74 CB592 Build Thread
« on: January 16, 2018, 08:09:23 AM »
Welp figured I would start a build thread in hopes of helping others as well getting some of my own questions answered (there will be many  ;D)

Some background - bike is a 1974 CB550K with 13K on the ticker.  Picked it up in November of ‘16 for $500. Pretty clean bike overall - needed carbs cleaned, battery, tires, cables, wheel bearings, and possibly a head gasket/o-rings as it was definitely seeping some oil from the head. My intention was to get it running and keep it around as a 2nd road bike for myself or for a friend if they wanted to ride.  Started disassembly, may have consumed a couple frosty treats and ended up completely disassembling the bike and engine. Engine was exceptionally clean for the age (could still see the honing on the cylinder walls, which along with some pry marks where
The cylinder meets the case leads me to believe the top end was redone at some point). Long story short, decided to completely restore/ modify the bike and do a custom build. Here’s the bike after I got it home (sans seat and fender:

And this is a photo from the prescious owner from several years prior in its mostly original state:

Nice project there - especially the engine components (including the sweet JMR port job) and the new paint.
