Striped pilot,customers gl1000 ?

77 gl 1000 wing customer brought to rebuild carbs.
Might be the toughest set I've ever worked on?
All went well except one carb had a broken slot for screwdriver pilot Jet?
These pilots are Tiny! 
I've soaked it with PB, and tried to attack it with a left hand drill, bit won't cut into jet.
The top of the jet is gone, it's flush with the threaded part where it screws into the alum.
It looks like something is in the hole in jet, maby a broken bit from Po?
I'm afraid to put too much pressure on drill ?
I'm also tempted to put in drill press and drill all way through?
Never seen one this tough before?
Ideas?

Remove the carb body and send to Jim French. He will excavate the hole and use his micro TIG welding apparatus to rebuild the post. He's a member here and does outstanding work.

If you still try to attack this yourself: I had a similar issue with an emulsion tube on a CBX carb. I boiled the carb in a dishwasher soap/water solution for a while to remove all the crud. Heated up the tower slightly with a small kitchen propane torch and then extracted the remains of the tube with a bolt extractor.

 Some guys have had luck with a dremel and a diamond bit taking out broken EZ outs. Might be worth a try to at least make a hole you can work with.

Some guys have had luck with a dremel and a diamond bit taking out broken EZ outs. Might be worth a try to at least make a hole you can work with.

Diamond stones in a Dremel tool to grind away as much of the broken jet as possible. Follow up with picks to try and get a purchase on the remaining bit of the offending jet. Take your time and break out the magnifying lamp to inspect your work as you go. I have removed broken bits and broken easy outs this way as well as broken bolts.

It can be easy to go off track on the dremel and if you cut into the tower for that pilot jet you can mangle the threads.  I would recommend you give Jim French athe job, he can fix it.  Unless you want to buy another carb body and gamble it is in good shape. Or, you could drop Mikunis on it and get a performance boost as well as a carb that does not have the tuning and cleaning and jetting issues you face with stock CV Keihin carbs.  Having dealt with a pair of CV carbs on a CX500 I understand their challenges. Murray's Carbs does turn key solution for Mikunis for the CX/GL 500/650 and GoldWing.

 There is a chemical..maybe alums that will dissolve steel parts out of aluminum.
 I would test it first on  the floatbowl, because carbs are not aluminum. If it eats the brass, the steel part will get loose.

You will have to email him, website is not built up...  he mentioned recently he is having trouble with a supplier...

He is now shipping coil on plug upgrade kits for CX and GL500s...with wiring and brackets, etc.
Should help but it is a different look.

Larry Cargill sold a couple bikes at Mecum Vegas last week he had restored and built...

Yes, Alum will eat the steel, so strip the carb of all hardware you can, or lose it to the slow chemical reaction.

The carbs have a bit of Zamak like Zinc, Aluminum, Tin, etc.  The white build ups behind pressed in or screwed in jets I think is a zinc compound. It is quite hard and the CV carbs really respond well to a good industrial ultrasonic bath.  I could not believe how many baths and cycles my CX carbs went throught with the 2.5L Harbor Freight Ultrasonic cleaner.  Get the warranty and have them replace it before your two year or one year warranty expires.  The cashiers would tell you to do this trying to sell you the plan.  Set a Google calandar reminder to do it the last month.  They actually did honor a warranty that was a couple months expired if I would buy the product warranty for the new device... it was not the ultrasonic cleaner.  I would really recommend you buy a larger industrial unit.  It will have more transducers as well as better quality.  The HF unit only runs for 15 minutes or was it 8 minutes... it is short and the heater is not recommended be used for more than 15 minutes non stop.  It will stay hot enough after that for a couple cycles to give it a rest.  Requires a lot of babysitting to run it for an hour or two, changing fluid frequently when it gets dirty.  Also repositioning the items to change the point where it is concentrating of the transducer is most effective.  You can map the transducer's strength in various areas of the tank with a sheet of aluminum foil vertically in the tank. This is a means of testing for transducer performance if youdo it in multiple locations in a repeatable grid the same locations everytime before you use it and keep records.  Businesses often have these types of procedures every shift where the ultrasonic cleaner was used.

Thanks for all post.
I'm going to try some more before I send it off for repair.
Been busy with work.
I now have it locked in a vise under my drill press.used a bit that would just barley
Go in the tower,I cut  turning by hand,left hand bit, and shaved the top of the jet
Until I started seeing alum shavings. This is where I stopped.
Next I have a bit just smaller than the diameter of pilot threads.
I now have a centered cut in pilot to hopefully center this small bit.
Planning on turning it by hand while applying pressure on the bit with press.
This should bring it out?
