cb350f carburetor air breaker upgrade
« on: January 21, 2018, 05:22:27 AM »
Does any one have any experience ditching the air box on their cb350f and up grading to 4 separate air breathers on each individual carb? Are there any breather upgrades that don’t require you to re-jet the carbs? If you do such an up grade do the carbs still have enough support from the engine connection side or did you have to fashion additional support on the side where the breather box used to be?

Actually that isn't upgrading but downgrading. Why would you want to do that? For the looks only?

Individual air cleaners should not require additional support.  Changing may slightly effect air/fuel mixture but probably not require a jet change.  Changing exhaust will have a much greater effect.  Don't expect any performance gain with this modification, however it will make more intake noise.

OP-I think if you do some searching through previous posts you will see that putting pods on a 350 makes it very difficult to tune properly. YMMV

Thanks for all the info guys. I just had a hell of a time removing the air box when I removed the carbs for a cleaning so it made me consider individual air cleaners

Okay, that can be tricky, but deleting the complete airbox can give you even worse headaches ;)
I always start with removing the airfilter, than taking out the oval metal tube with its rubber from filterbox to airbox (also seen that called plenum on this forum) and than taking out the carbs with the plenum still attached, with a fair bit bit of juggling, to the right side of the bike.
Mounting it is the reverse from dismantling, with the advantage that it is almost the only way to put on the middle two rubbers from airbox to carbs correctly....
Done once, the next time won't take more than maybe 10 minutes!

I use a ratchet strap when taking out the airbox from my 400, on the 350 it should also work fine, mounting everything is really easy if you fold a small bicycle inner tube in the airbox and let the valve sticking out where the filter should be, heat up the airbox slightly, line it up and inflate the tube, it goes in in no time.

That’s great advice guys. Thank you,

I do have one question about reassembling the carbs on the 350f. To put the slow jet back in, do you screw it all the way in and leave it and that’s it? Or do you screw it all the way in and then screw it out so many turns? I know some carbs are this way. I have not found anything on it online or in my manual.i just want to make sure I get back in right

I think you mean the idle mixture screw? The slow jet sits next to the mainjet in between the floats and is securely screwed in, the IMS sits on the outside, is held in place with a spring and should be approx 0.75 turn out.

Hey guys I'm rebuilding carbs on my cb350f. I'm replacing main jets. Do you guys know proper way jets sit? By that I mean does the shallower opening in the jet go towards or away from the float bowl? I'm second guessing myself and want to verify. Thanks!

The side with the size stamped in it should be 'looking away'  from the carb.
But I once put one in wrong way round, and that didn't make any difference, i only found out a full year later when I switched jets after switching camshaft.
