"Tokico" or "Nissin" - Which Caliper do I have?
« on: January 09, 2007, 07:20:50 PM »
I sent a note to www.SpeedBleeder.com today asking about the correct speed bleeder for my '77 550K.  Their response indicated that I have one of two different calipers, a "Tokico" or "Nissin".  How can I tell the difference?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I think the 550 had a Tokiko caliper... If so it will say "TOKIKO" in lettering cast into the caliper body.

Look up Speed Bleeder in FAQ. We have a list there. It should be complete for all bikes except the 650. Seems we didn't get any feed back from the 650 owners that would help complete the list.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Actually, I did look that up.  The FAQ says I should use the SB7100S.  According to the note I got from SpeedBleeder.com, that would be the Tokico caliper - consistant with what Jonesy said (thanks!).

The reason I'm a little confused is that the Honda fiche I used earlier today has a "NISS" code associated with the caliper part description.

Guess I'm going to have to locate some labeling on the casting to make sure.  Hope there is some!

Look along the rounded bottom of the piston-side casting, opposite the bleeder and pipe connections. If you can't find it, I can post a pic in a few days when I'm back home....

Tokico Caliper - Confirmed.  SB7100S and enema bag... er... collection bag and hose on their way!

While I was looking it over, I noticed that there is a tapped screw hole on the leading edge of the RIGHT fork too.  It's exactly opposite from a similar looking hole that holds the current caliper.  Does this mean I could mount a second caliper on the right side if I wanted to go dual disk?
