Most of the SOHC4s have tanks resembling saddle bags in construction. And, the far bag from the fuel tap doesn't feed out the bottom.
So, if you run out of gas on the fuel tap side there is still some gas in the other side.
Two ways to get at that fuel. Tip the tank so it spills over the center hump. Or, if you have forward motion, tap the brakes aggressively so that inertia forces the fuel forward and it sloshes over the hump toward the dry side and feeds the fuel tap.
I used this latter when I misjudged how far the next gas station was. I did make it to the gas station under power. And then put 4.1 gallons into a 4.2 gallon tank.
