1969 Suzuka CB750R - Hisiki / Sumiya Honda
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:36:07 PM »
When the Big H launched the CB750, they used one for their official "blue helmets" race team and won the 1969 Suzuka 8 hour race with the Hisiki and Sumiya riding. The bike was a fairly wild colour scheme and patternd and I'm desperately trying to find a picture of it, colour or black and white. The scheme was a wild curvy design similar to Valentino Rossi's Mugello white and blue Hawaiin type design but in French Blue, yellowy green and a black background!

I've tried everywhere I know and unless I take up Japanese to try and understand the websites in Japan that might have some refernce to the bike, I'm a bit stuck.

Anyone out there have anything that might help?

Actually - I'm soooo desperate, I'll offer a pair of classic works Honda Wings tank decals in exchange or a pair of stickers of your name in Brush Script for a modern bike for the first picture I get in response  :o

Would you believe it - the Big H confirm that they do indeed still have this bike and it's at Motegi in the Collection Hall. It isn't on display however so they won't provide a picture....shessh! So close and yet so far.... :'(

Still got stickers on the table for anyone who can come up with a decent picture for me  ;D

Search ebay for magazines of the next month after the race; chances are there will be coverage of the event.

Post a pic if you got it.

Then you will see posts telling you how it will be a better bike if you repaint it and put stock pipes on it.... ;)

so they have it but its not on display. Will it eventually be displayed or what?

I might got the MotoGP there later in the year and I was going to stop in for a look. I can get pics then if they have the bike out.

Well they say it's "in the back" and not on display with no plans to put it on display. Bit of a shame really as it's probably THE 750 that launched the whole race programme and led to Daytona. Oh and the paint job is the wackiest thing this side of a Valentino's Mugello paint schemes...good idea re: ebay Raul - worth a try that one.

I've asked them to see if they can sneak in the back and take a picture on a phone or something. I guess it's a big ask for our inscrutible friends in Big H to do that but hey - don't ask you don't get.

Sam - nice pics, do you have a photographic workshop that follows you guys everywhere? Great pictures wherever you pop up!  :D

We have 3 Simon ;D ;D ;D ones very expensive but takes some real classy shot, the other 2 are OK though and a lot cheaper.
I ordered 10 pics from them, it cost me over £100 ($200) >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
How come you didn't include your own stickers with my order that incidentally, I was very pleased with 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Ooops yes you're right - typo! The winners were Morio Sumiya and Tetsuya Hishiki. The second place guys were also Honda test rider teamsters - Yoichi Oguma and Minoru Sato. I've looked for hours too, even on Japanese sites for the odd word that might help and I can't find anything. If it wasn't for the fact that the bike is in the Motegi archive I would believe by now that it didn't exist....

The 1973 bike is real nice but it's just not quite different enough for me. The kind of thing it should be is as per attached. This is a good representation but as you can see there's no detail for the top of the tank or fender...

Sure would be nice to see some old pics of Morio Sumiya's original CR750 at Suzuka - OH to have been a fly on the wall!

OR at the very least, a few pics from a few different angles. Why didn't THAT bike wind up in a museum? We've all seen the replica. But the ORIGINAL - Where in the heck are the pictures of IT?

You know, I've got a funny feeling there's a whole WEALTH of #$%* we've never even heard of in the West, where we won't even see it online until we learn to type and search in Kanji, let alone write and speak in Japanese. All of those private garages in Japan, they're gonna be the 'BARN-FIND" of the future....
