eVil Bay to start new seller raping fee program
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:10:49 PM »
When I got the MUTHA F'in email tonight to say the least I was hot. Thier services suck much like WalMart and now they go into RAPE mode for selling vehicles.

Dear anubis_cycle,

An important part of any business strategy is the regular evaluation of pricing structure. From time to time, we make pricing changes to correct unhealthy dynamics in the eBay marketplace, as was the case last July. Typically, however, we make changes on an annual basis at the beginning of the year.

Today, I'm here to tell you about fee adjustments for eBay.com and eBay Motors which go into effect on January 30, 2007.
Let me say that, while we believe these changes are modest, we consider any changes that may impact our sellers with great care. These adjustments are the result of careful analysis and we believe they're the right thing to do to keep the marketplace strong for our eBay.com and eBay Motors sellers.

Core Listing Fees: Auction-Style & Fixed Price*

Fee Type  Item Price  New Fee  Current Fee
Insertion Fee  Starting Price:
$1.00 - $9.99  $0.40  $0.35
Final Value Fee  Selling Price:
$25.01 - $1000.00  3.25%  3%

*Does not impact Store Inventory Listings.

eBay Motors Vehicles Fees

The fees listed above will also apply to Parts & Accessories.
Fee Type  New Fee  Current Fee
Motorcycles & Powersports
Transaction Services Fee  $40  $30
Cars & Trucks, Other
Vehicles & Trailers
Transaction Services Fee  $50  $40
Motors Reserve Fee  0.1% of reserve price
($5 minimum,
$10 maximum)  $5

To learn more about each of these changes, I invite you to read our Frequently Asked Questions and our eBay Fees Help page. (To learn more about Canada fee adjustments, please check the Announcement Board for eBay.ca.)

A Successful Online Holiday Shopping Season
As I've said many times, one of our most important jobs here at eBay is ensuring that we're driving buyers to the site. This online holiday shopping season was a big success, and I want to acknowledge the outstanding efforts this last quarter from our marketing team led by Gary Briggs. Our integrated "IT" campaign performed well for the second year in a row, reaching our targeted shoppers an average of 13 times per person.
In fact, according to Nielsen NetRatings, overall traffic to online shopping sites on the day after Thanksgiving (known as "Black Friday") grew 12% from last year--and eBay was the number one shopping destination that day with an impressive 7.5 million unique visitors. But the good news didn't stop there. This momentum continued through the weekend to "Cyber Monday" (the Monday after Thanksgiving), which has become associated with peak online holiday shopping activity. I'm pleased to report that Nielsen declared eBay the most visited Internet site that day, too, with 5.6 million visitors.

Of course, our shelves need to be well-stocked when the buyers arrive, so these results are testament to the partnership we have with our dedicated sellers. We can all be proud of our joint success in pleasing shoppers with whatever "IT" was this season.

More to come in 2007
Looking ahead at the new year, it's never been more important that eBay deliver value through our marketing investments, product initiatives, and Trust & Safety strategies. Times have changed from 11 years ago when we were a small innovative idea on the Internet. Quite frankly, some of the problems demanding our attention are more complex. But what inspires me every morning--and what I hope inspires you, too--is that the opportunities for eBay and its Community to succeed by celebrating what makes us unique have never been greater.
Later this month, I'll be addressing a group of eBay sellers who will be here in person in the San Jose area, and I'll be sharing some of our plans and priorities for the coming year. My keynote speech will be available via a recorded Webcast for our whole Community (more details will be available soon) and we'll be following the event with more announcements on specific initiatives. I think you'll find we're taking a surprisingly fresh look at some of the old challenges, and I'm excited about the road ahead.

On behalf of everyone at eBay, I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Bill Cobb
President, eBay North America

I can say I am done with this big FAT JACK ASS getting richer by raping sellers.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure that he is excited, he goes to frickin Aruba while I suck fumes in my shop...................

I just wont sell any vehicles on there anymore. So there is no "barrel" except for the one they are scooping shyte into.

I say anyone who continues to is getting raped. And they just might be the dumb ones we are looking for landmine testers. I will get my chance to say my peace. I have made my page on the web site. Let them waste dollars getting thier duck stroking lawyers to make it go away.

I guess the eBay executives need more money for their multi-million dollar yearly bonus on top of their multi-million dollar salaries, but who am I to complain, I own 300 shares of eBay stock.

I guess the bottom line is how big a market does a person want to be exposed to?? If I was to want to sell a vehicle I would use the local Buy and Sell to place an ad (cost: free; with no taking of a slice of the selling price) and know that any potential buyer is right there on my doorstep.

Yesterday I put some stuff on for a fee of 20 cents. By the looks of it the minimum fee will now be 40 cents...

multiply by hundreds of thousands of listings = someone is getting very rich.

It will be interesting to see if their conflict resolution model improves with these changes. I got scammed on Christmas Day (go figure!!) and am still waiting to hear back from them.

Funny how there are no specifics as to exactly why fees have increased, i.e. increased operating costs secondary to expansion, equipment upgrades etc, or how they came up with the new numbers. What exactly does "correct unhealthy dynamics in the ebay marketplace" mean. I undwerstand fees cannot remain the same forever The market is ready for another online auction house. A little competition is good. I remember Home Depot destroying other suppliers a few years back. Once they were the only game in town they jacked up prices and maintained a #$%*ty inventory on many items. Now Loews is in the picture and...lo and behold...Home Depot has revamped operations.

Again, not to jack this thread, but did you see that Home Depot's CEO Nardelli resigned today and he will take a $210 million dollar severance package with him.  Last year he made almost 30 million is just straight salary.  That would buy alot of SOHC's.

Not to further high-jack this thread, but along these lines, I saw a segment on the news this A.M. about convicted (as in felons) congressmen who will still receive benefits for the rest of their lives. We, of course are paying them via our taxes. The lowest figure I saw of those listed was $64,000 per year. >:(

When I started with ebay 10 years ago, they needed you - now they feel you need them. That is true to an extent. They have moved thier focus from the individual seller to Corporations wishing to move idle inventory. I worked with ebay when IBM was looking into ecommerce and they were very clear about moving away from the small person who sells odds and ends, to the big Corporate sellers, and those sellers who are now in the Auction business. You will notice the new fee structure does not effect the ebay stores. Their reasoning is that this huge volume of small sellers generates a larger number of disputes, frauds etc which costs money to deal with. You won't have as many of these problems with Corporations and professional sellers. I am not defending them, it is just how they see it.
Thier stock is no longer a high flyer, and they have Google breathing down PayPals neck with thier new Checkout. They will not allow Google payments on ebay by claiming it is not "mature" enough. Google checkout has wooed some big accounts from PayPal and probably will continue to do so. PayPal is ebays cash cow and their weakest spot. If you want to make inroads into their business you start there, then you get to the sell side.

If you look at the ebay article on wikipedia you will see how they have cornered the market for online Auctions by aquireing other Auction sites(like ebay motors and the offshore sites). They actually own a small piece of Craigslist from some stock they bought from disgruntled former Craigslisters. Craig is the largest holder of stock and they cannot gain control of that.

Google may open thier own site or align themselves with a other sites and take on ebay. Google has deep enough pockets to really mount an attack and having a solid payment system is the cornerstone. Programming an Auction site would be easy for them since they have hired some of the best programmers away from Microsoft and other Software houses and perhaps ebay itself.

Sorry about the long winded post, but I started in ebusiness before I retired and I keep an eye on the industry.

If I were you Tom, I would suggest you try Craigslist and see what type of response you get. It is free and you may get a better class of buyers. I gave up on ebay Motors for vehicles since I never had a bigger bunch of scabby assed buyers giving me greif. Parts I have had good luck with.

Vehicle listings went up $10 more to $40. You may think this is not a big deal in the scope of things, but when you are selling a rolling chassis (not worth a whole lot) with a title (worth something), they want the same rape fee as a Busa. Just not right. An no you can not just sell the frame with title. If you are caught they will nail you and eject you.

Keep in mind that when successful seller like myself leave it's worth about $500 - $1,000 a head per month. Now lets add that one up  :D

Economics says that is 10% leave they WILL notice the hit in the pocket book and the whole thing will backfire.

I got that notice, and I'm lucky to have enamel left on my teeth.  Like you said, for cheaper bikes, with the basic fee, plus value added fees, plus any photos and this and that plus PayPal's cut, it adds up fast. I was thinking that that would probably get rid of a lot of chassis and get people to start cutting bikes just for parts- which are ofetn worth more than the whole bike anyway.
I have to have someplace to complain.  There must be.  This is so bogus.  Sure make Cycle Trader look good.  The trouble with Craigs List is it's not national.  The vehicles I sell are almost always go out of state.

Yeah, if the regular folk like us get a felony,we stand to do jail time, pay fines, maybe lose jobs, get bad marks on background checks or DMV printouts which make it hard to get a new job. We don't keep drawing benifits and it sure as hell ain't in the 60K range.
So when will this insanity end?

Ebay is getting to be a very expensive way to sell.

If you list an item for $9.99 with the item selling for $50.00 to an international buyer (and assuming they pay with PAYPAL), you'll pay the following:
$0.40 for the listing fee (assuming you don't add multiple pictures or opt for any eye-catching add-ons)
$2.12 for the final valuation (5.25% of the first $25 and 3.25% of remaining amount).
$0.30 PAYPAL transaction fee
$1.95 for PAYPAL fees (3.9% of $50).
===========
$4.77 out of $50.00 or over 9.5% in various fees - that's a VERY large percentage.

If you'd opted for additional pictures or bolding the listing - add another $1.65...

I figured that whole bikes I would sell on car soup, because it is $25 until it sells and you can modify the prices if needed to get the response you need. It stays up until it sells. PLus we have also signed up to sell on onlineauction.com. Not sure how well that will fly or how well it is used, but I figure at $8 per month flat rate it was worth a try. I will let you guys know how it goes. Still learning how to use all of the stuff there.

how does "increasing seller fees"  help with "maintaining a stable online economy"  sounds more like "put money in my pocket to make the world better" theory?

not gonna work
