New guy from Central California
« on: January 24, 2018, 08:08:39 AM »
Hi all!

My name is Jason and I'm primarily a sport bike/track/racing instructor and canyon junkie on much more modern machines, but I have had a 1976 CB550 (way back in the 90's.... first 4-cylinder bike!) and recently I'm working on a '76 custom Cafe bike.  I have a small repair and restoration business and considering I'm not new to forums and their vast supplies of information I wanted to join up here to get some info, look for parts, and maybe help contribute in some ways if I can.

Recently one of my customers asked me to look into his bike.  After some diagnosing and giving him the bad news that she needed to be torn apart, I began the process.  Here's a video of the damage.  (should be public even though it's on facebook.) https://www.facebook.com/1motomedic/videos/1924058781244859/

What I'm in need of are some specific part that aren't that available without some digging.  I could really use some recommendations on main bearings (specific to this bike or anything compatible), Cam chain guide and tensioner, maybe a head that has good journals.  This thing had a lot of shavings in the oil so the head is pretty toasted.  It'll cost more to machine than to just replace most likely.

The bike is a '74 CB550.  I'll post up some pics shortly.

Thanks for any suggestions and looking forward to being part of the community!
