What I been working on..
« on: January 25, 2018, 07:59:43 PM »
Sadly not my new custom Honda.
Not a truck guy but have been helping with this.
It drove today, not ready for testing but enough to check all the lift systems and drive it, but it needs fiddling.
 2017 Ford.
Underneath below transfer case.. everything has been changed, the only stock part past there is maybe a drive shaft.
Over 20 inches clearance to diff.
Lifts about 18 inches, have pic of it up and down.
Each wheel can move independently, and it can side tilt or lift front or rear at your choosing.
It will have tire inflate/deflate while driving.
It only weighs about 500 lbs more than stock.

Looks expensive. Don't see those really tall lifted trucks around here much anymore like I used to.

The first pic shows the height for getting in and out.
I think one stock driveshaft may be use, but the universals are probably changed.  Fromnthe diff out it uses CV joints. A type that is about 5.5 inches dia  by2.5 long. The inclination is around 22 degrees both ways off straight.

Pretty sure it's a real work truck. being stuck in the middle of no-where and possibly dying isn't an option for most people  ;D

Ofreen , I do think of your jeeps now and then, i like the one that had the blower on  it in the 60,s
A side note, the guy that developed this stuff has a Bigger Jeep with most of this stuff on it. It has been in use several years I think. So its proven that it works.
He used to travel to off-road events in the US and did quite well, they often did not believe he drove them down there.... in fact after one event in Utah or Idaho, they hired someone to follow him to see where the trailer was stashed.. they finally gave up somewhere in Washington state.
This and most of the others he built will do 90 mph on the highway.
They have often used them in 6 or 8 feet of snow.
The tilt feature and rear steer make a huge difference.

But mainly this will be marketed as an alternative to track vehicles to industry such as power line , exploration, rescue,  that sort of thing. I think it will be much faster than most stuff with tracks.

Yeah... nice truck! I would imagine the cost factor of the additions is more than the list price of the 2017 Ford F150 it started as...
How much would it cost to do all that, Frank?

...and Yeah... when are you going to get more frame kits done lol.... ;)

The cost on the truck is very high.  Soon we will start on 2 more.
Not sure I should say, but likely in the price range  of what at least 4 stock trucks would cost.

I have a guy working on the frame kits.  A bit of fiddling in the beginning, to get setup and getting  used to the process. Should be coming soon.

Nice! I see heaps of lifted trucks on US TV shows and think "what a pile of sh1t", but that thing looks like a quality engineered, military grade, off road vehicle. I'd drive it. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

There is thousands of lifted trucks around, but most lack clearance to the diffs.
And the body and box are on their stock mounts..

It's real nice to see one done properly, always amazes me that people will lift truck to '10 ft high' and have around stock clearance on diffs and transmission cases.
I guess it's going to be running around out on te tundra?

Only if they have stock tires, which is pretty uncommon on a lifted truck in my experience.

With a solid axle diff clearance is 100% related to tire size. A "Suspension lift" only lifts the frame higher off the axle, it doesn't lift the axle higher off the ground, bigger tires does that.

Now with modern IFS trucks (which is all light duty trucks sold in the US as far as I know) the lift will raise the diff housing to some extent as it doesn't move relative to the frame the way a solid axle does (most of the bigger lifts actually require the diff to be lowered slightly, meaning front diff clearance doesn't go up in direct proportion to the suspension lift). But even then ground clearance is still partially a function of tire size because with IFS as the suspension compresses the diff goes down.

As far as I know nobody sells a full-size pickup from the factory with a IRS (I think the compact Honda Ridgeline has an IRS). There are a bunch of SUV's that have them, including the full sized Expedition/Navigator, but no actual pickups.

Not entirely unfamiliar with concept but even going from a 38 to a 44 only gives you max of 3" extra height, usually less when pressures are dropped for 'muddin'

An update it has been driven a bit but there have been some electronic glitches.mthosecare getting ironed out.
Because some sensors had been left out, or for some other reason,  the front steering had kicked out.
 It uses the stock actuator.
Pretty amazing though what rear steer can do for moving bit around.. which gets real handy when you are offroad.

I've only used 'rear steer' on earthmoving type equipment (was 'site service engineer' for a few years, great title, #$%* job)
Takes a little getting used to but can get you out of some 'sticky' situations (literally when your in yellow clay  ;D)
