Nutella scrums
« on: January 26, 2018, 11:44:36 AM »
Typical of the sh1t that has led me to decide to quit France after 14 years here :

http://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-42838872/nutella-sale-causes-scrums-in-french-supermarkets

Imagine that sort of behaviour over a spread !

I see this sort of stuff all the time, driving, queueing, colleagues in work , regardless of Egalité and Fraternité it's normally everyone for him or her self.

Sounds like they have too much pent up aggression and they need a proper outlet for it.  You are going to see similar problems in many countries I am afraid as the days of looking out for one another and respecting others and viewing them as equals entitled to respect and courtesy is gone in many countries today.  The larger cities the looking out for self is more evident.

Where will you go to escape this problem?

In the case of France, I'd simply argue stupitidy.

Thanks for asking , I'm off to Asia, quasi retirement in the Philippines, where Terry is sure I'll be murdered. But I think I can handle that.

I heard about the nutella scrapes. Jeez - you'd think it was avocado toast or something ;D

And don't worry, you won't die in the Philippines. Just remember, someone running at you with a machete isn't necessarily a threat. ;)

Best of luck Kev, and congrats on your upcoming nuptials. Of course I hope you don't get murdered like my mate did, but just to be on the safe side, could you send me your RC30 for safe keeping? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You'll scrub up pretty good in your Barong Tagalong Kev. ;)
My congratulations and best wishes to you both.

As for that RC30....... You will be much better off leaving that gem in my care.
At least you can be confident that I won't be riding it around, unlike that "hoon" Terry.
He would scuff up the footpegs on that magnificent machine at the drop of a hat. ::)

Cheer,

Ha ha, come on Brian, tell the truth, that RC30 would be in your garage 5 minutes before you tore the engine out and shoved it into a racing sidecar outfit! No, I promise to look after Kev's bike, and if the footpegs are scuffed when he comes to collect it, it probably happened when I was washing it............. ;D

Black Friday sales take on the kind of mania over Nutella easily...

Kev, Congrats on the upcoming wedding.  I hope it is a great time and you enjoy your time in the Philippines. Lots of terrorist and kidnapping activity there.
What part of Asia are you headed for?

I have visited Japan... Tokyo and the region outside Tokyo and spent a day in Yokohama taking the Bullet Train down and back on a rainy day.  Japan was great and even being gaijin you were treated politely.  You will be gaijin even if you live the rest of your life there...
Food in Japan was great too.  I do not think I could afford to live there.

If it were Hawaii that would be Nutella and Spam...

Do Filipinos have a unique cuisine?  A slow cooked pig can be quite tasty.

I am sure you will enjoy living there.
How is the island going to be for motorcycle riding?

You can tour the Imelda Marcos shoe collection while you are there...it is massive and much of the collection was damaged by water/mold/mildew so the full collection is not on display but it is staggering  the number of shoes that are on display.

The RC30 is such a legendary classic...unfortunately I cannot deal with sport bikes, too much spinal stenosis.

Guy I know on CX500 forum has a couple bikes at Mecum and one of the guys on the list watched and wrote down the selling prices of a bunch of Hondas going across the block.  The GB 500 went for 13k.  Larry Cargill had a very very nice Cafe bike that had a lot of nice touches and was an attractive bike, it went for $6k.  His '78 he restored to better than stock condition went for $7500 two years ago.  He restored a 79 in this year's auction to a level a notch above that and I haven't seen what it sold for today.  Hopefully for more than the '78...
Larry knows the CX and GL bikes inside out and does great work.  He is working on a CX650E, the Euro model that was international and in Canada.  They are nice looking bikes, they are a classic Honda styling.

There was a CX500 Turbo that was immaculate but it did not go across the auction block Thursday as slated.  Larry   intended to find out why it did not go to auction while there Friday.  He will be taking the CX650E to Mecum Las Vegas next year and Mecum intends to do a feature on it as they have never seen one and do not know much about them.  They gave a lot more this year on the cafe CX500 to help it in the auction.  They were impressed by Larry's build and apparently like his work.

intended was going to find

One of my car club buddies made the flyers the year of our 10th anniversary we had an overnighter at a local motel and an outdoor band. nearby.  He put free beer on the flyer and nobody noticed it until they were mailed. A few of the guys would have broke us so we gave everyone two beer tickets when they registered. Easy out.

I may have to try this Nutella if it's good enough to fight over.
