Sold a couple of bikes. Just got a project.
« on: January 28, 2018, 02:30:10 AM »
In the last fortnight I sold my xs1b and Bonneville.  Ended up getting a RD350lc Basket case.
Good bones and a good starting point.

I am kind of keeping my eyes open for one of those nice early Yammie 650's if one were to come my way. A friend of mine sold a gold one just like yours a few years ago for some very good coin and I remember when I rode it around a little that I really liked how narrow it was and its good low end torque/power. Not to picky the red, green or gold are all nice looking.

Thanks fellas. Both the 650's where getting a bit to much to kick over with my aliments but they were
nice bikes . I got what i wanted for them.
The RD will be a brother to the one I have. My first one is an 81 and this project is an 82.
Wouldn't mind an earlier air cooled one either.
Here's my one thats on the road.

Nice one Ken, I've just sold my 1969 K0 project and intend to sell off all of my "superfluous" bikes, but another project bike would be good over winter..... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, nah, Ideally one bike would do me Steve, but like you I like a range of bikes to ride, depending on my mood. The trouble is it costs around $700 per year to keep each bike registered and insured, and some only get ridden every other year, plus I have several sitting in a self storage facility which costs over $3K per year, so if I can narrow the collection down to maybe 4 bikes (from the 13 I've still got) I'll be happy. ;D

$700 is pretty pricey, so there is a downside to living in Oz?!   Do what I do, only register a few and move the plate to the one you are riding that day.
Only against the law if you get caught!

Ha ha, when I had a couple of Suzy GS1000's I reported my number plate lost so they stamped another one for me, and I've got a pic somewhere of them parked side by side with identical number plates. My only concern with that is if I was in a crash the insurance company would check the plate against the VIN, and wouldn't cover me. I've got cheap classic registration on my bikes over 25 years old, but sadly that's only a small portion of the current fleet. Time to sell some, methinks....... ;D

Buy selling the two bikes Terrence and replacing them with the one , I thought ,yes more room and less maintenance.
Alas today I'm heading out to look at a H1. Odds are I'll buy it. Might sell my slabbie.

Ha ha, well Kwaka triples are going for silly money Ken, but early Gixxers are coming up in value too, so I'm guessing it's gonna be a difficult decision? Is it a 750 or 1100? I loved the 1100, but the 750 was too peaky for my lazy riding style;D

Thanks ,it's an 86.   A US import.

I will sit on the slabbie for awhile. It's a nice bike. Original paint except headlight fairing. Had the usual tail tidy , bubble indicators and vance and hines pipe.
All  period mods. Was toying with the idea of returning to stock but it is what it is.  Fun to ride but not for long.ha

While I think all H1s are great and worth going after, prices for them vary quite a bit, depending on year. 69 and 70s, of course are the highest, with 69 specimen beating expensive H2s. 71s and 72s hang on the low end of the high side. 1972 H2Cs are sought after by Kawa triple experts and collectors due to their rarity. 73 H1D, 74H1E and 75H1F , while not necessarily cheap, are probably the biggest bang for the buck, although the Candy Lime Green 73 and 74s are the worst for paint fading and almost all need a repaint. 1976 KH500 are sort of the step-children. Seems like nobody really wants them.
1973 CB350F -sold
1974 CB350F -218 orig miles, sold
1976 CB750K - in restoration

Just got it Terrence. I wouldn't say famous, But being a published author and artist sort of puts me in the minor celebrity field.
Post your copy up and I can autograph it for you. For free, as a favour.

Well you know how I don't like to boast Ken, so don't be humbled, just keep trying and one day............ who knows? Trevor (my cocky) is a particularly disrespectful bird, so I won't tell you what he's doing to the pic of your LC as I type this, but needless to say, I can't watch, it's just too awful............

Hey your Kwaka looks great, I remember riding one back in the 1980's, it was a wicked little thing, where did you find one in such good nick? If it was mine I'd just clean it up and ride it, they're only original once! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Lady luck has not smiled upon me yet Steve. I have seen very few of those around for sale unfortunately in my area regardless of the price point. Don't want to have to mortgage the house for one either so as they say "The hunt is half the fun". I wish I would have been more serious 10-20 years ago on them. Maybe I can trade 3-400's and a 350 triple for a 750, seem to still find those around  ::)  Maybe if I beg and grovel and make a serious pain of myself a certain Kwacker collector up north will sell me one  :D  Heard he may be thinning his herd sometime in the not so distant future.

Yeah, he may be thinning the herd but I have a feeling he won't be letting anything go for cheap.  BTW - his last birthday bash is this Aug, would be fun to go.  Unfortunately, I can't make it, will be in the Rocky Mts for a wedding.

I've decided i'm going to get it safe, brakes, clutch, cables, tyres and a bloody good service. Its been off the road since 78.
Played with some wiring today and everything works .I think a grand will make it ready to ride.  Bloody Gov't will want a few hundred as well.

Good idea mate, as much as immaculately restored bikes look nice, it's like their histories have been obliterated. I prefer something with a few stories to tell. I'll look forward to seeing pics of it back on the road! ;D

Ha ha, are you still working Ken, or have you retired? I'd love to be able to retire, but I hate the thought of living on canned baked beans, which is all I could afford if I retired now, and it's too cold in winter to leave the windows open! ;D

I'm sort of retired Terrence.  My wife does pretty good and looks after me. I make sure she has clean clothes for work and somewhere clean to sleep.
A bit of cooking and cleaning but could do more.
The body is a bit fragile these days from previous injuries and general wear and tear. I don't get a jatz cracker from the government but sell a few things
on ebay to go towards beer and bike parts but at the moment its fairly slow. I'm cheap to run, rarely have a takeway feed , don't play golf and
rarely go to the pub.
Once a fortnight I fill the tanks on the FJ and RD but don't venture to far from home anymore. It's to dangerous now with mobile phones
and with radar cameras everywhere it takes the enjoyment out of it. I'm currently waiting to see if I get a speeding ticket in the mail.
I hope I slowed down enough before I got into his detection zone, wherever the hell that was. Bloody plicks.

Well all the best mate, One of my co-workers from Canberra is a bit of a nerd, and 3 weeks ago he surprised everyone when he bought a new Mustang. Within 2 weeks of picking it up he'd been booked doing 140 KPH (90 MPH) in a 100KPH (60 MPH) zone. I haven't found out what penalty he's going to receive, and apparently NSW's speeding penalties were all increased late last year, so I think it's gonna be expensive.

I hope you weren't going that fast? I can't say anything, if I was caught doing some of the speeds I've seen (especially on my bigger bikes) I would probably get life with no parole! ;D
