« on: January 04, 2007, 01:20:37 AM »
While I wait for another ignition switch electrical thingo - I want to basically connect the two corresponding wires with a switch to cut power when I stop.

What type of switch do I need ? 12 volt but how many amps?

Go to Dick Smiths and get a simple toggle switch, tape it to the handle bars - but insulate your wires first - you only need the red and black from the ignition for on/off running....not sure about your lights though - does your right hand switch have a light switch incorporated with a DOT, P and L on it ??

PO on mine had three toggle switches mounted on the headlight shell - one for ignition on/off the other for lights on/off and hi/lo beam

If its only temp dont worry about rating as long as it is amps not milliamps---yes it will eventually burn out but by then you will have done a proper repair. If you want to be ultra safe same rating as fuse on the circuit

I just did this last night because the one that was installed in the headlight by the PO burned out.

I bought one from Radio Shack rated at 25amps and some 1/4" quick connectors.  Red to one terminal and black, brown, and brown/white to the other terminal.

Works great until such time I can replace the proper ignition switch.

Steelo,
Have got a complete switch from a CB900 which has the 5 male points plus the plastic is good - do you want the whole switch -(sorry no key) as I don't want to try and remove the plastic from it -
I'll post up a picture tonight.....
