Cr750 Fork?
« on: January 31, 2018, 08:22:26 AM »
I came upon this very interresting looking cb500. its been owned by the same owner since -74 and now his health is so bad he is laying off the bike. Does anyone know if this is the cr750 magnesium thats fitted on? it got four bolts at the bottom. Also the rims would be nice to know there is something special about them, not sure if they are from the same kit but seem to be cast aluminium from the same time. Whats the value on these items? Interrested because i really like the bike but the asking price is high.

They are probably Checkered Flag Racing..look for CFR cast in somewhere.
Either that or Checkered Flag Customs.
I dont think I would have trouble forking out 200 bux for the lowers.
Looks like a Lester mag. Does it have carbs or custom swingarm ?

It does look like a Lester mag, not sure about the lowers, but looks like a nice setup!

The engine got 550 high comp pistons. with the racing cam it cannot be started with the starter motor (dead weight hehe) there are some better valve springs aswell and heavy duty studs in there. There is a normal bigbore engine aswell extra, but its got nothing fancy, se pictures. There are no original pipes. There are 3 sets of shock, one of them are original. there is one brand new tacho meter thats unopened. There is a engine mount. A racing fairing with matching colors. Cafe racer sadle and the original in mint condition. spokewheels.

Very Nice! Was that used for racing at one time? It certainly has the stuff for it. I like the rear sets. Those are most likely Lester mags too. They have the look. I would fix it up and ride or race it!

No i dont think it was used for racing. The same guy has had it since it was new. the first few years he changed most of the bike to what it looks like now. What do you guys think would be a good asking price?

The Lesters by themselves are worth $500-$600. Wires not so much, I think I paid $50 a few months ago for a rear not in quite as good a shape as the one you pictured.

Two fancy engines, nice rearsets. twin drilled front disks. Maybe a $5k package? The engines might cost more than that to assemble, but they don't generally get back what they cost.

I paid $1300 for my rideable 550F with those same wheels a couple years back.

Are prices in Sweden generally high for the older vintage bikes Bajskorv? Know nothing about the market over there.

The rear-sets may be John Tickle, from the shape of the rubber. Do they have his name on the underside? Please post a picture of the right-side foot-peg and brake lever. The right-side peg should pivot up, while the left side is rigid.

If its in Europe tbat is likely a very good price.
Somewhere I have a magazine article on installing those lower legs. I think the 4 bolt bottoms is a very good idea.
The same company made a c bracket for dual disc for 750 from 69- 72. It's magnesium and fits without shimming.. i.e. properly no cutting part off like the stocker.
I was lucky to get one from Scottly last summer at the reunion. It has tye cast in letters.

I would think it would be easy to tell the difference between magnesium and aluminum given some examples for comparison...magnesium is kinda hard to get a hold of though.

Those certainly look just like Lester wheels to me and the footpeg rubbers are the same as the Tickle rearsets for a 400/4 I own.
If it works good, it looks good...

You can see they are mag in the pic,  the  aluminum wheel is right beside it....look at the color.
Important here to check for corrosion.

A few years back a guy was buying a 500 project bike.mit hadvthose forks, custom discs and a Morris front wheel.
I tried to buy the front end he did not know it was magnesium. Might have been in Texas. Anyway..one that got away.

Light it on fire. If you can't put it out, it's magnesium.
