Carb Intake Boot Repair? CB550K
« on: February 25, 2018, 02:52:53 PM »
Hi All,

I have a '77 CB550K with the PD46A carbs and one of the boots that connect my airbox to the carbs has cracked/torn along one side a bit while removing the carbs for normal maintenance.

This part is basically impossible to find (I've tried) and the boots from older CB550's don't fit on the PD46 carbs, so I'm between the options of trying to repair it or switching to pods.

Has anyone repaired their carb to airbox boots? I'm thinking I could seal the tear with loctite or gorilla glue and then wrap it tight with electrical tape once it's clamped back onto the carbs. That, while not ideal, still seems like a preferable solution to switching to pods and all the issues that can cause. I'm thinking any air leak would be not material, and the seal is more important on the cylinder head side of the carbs.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Same part type, yes, but those won't fit PD carbs on the 77-78 CB550K...It says so much in the description of that part page.

Doesn't seem like anyone makes replacements for these...Just trying to understand if anyone has successfully repaired these.

Paul Gabor makes them. He used to have a website but it's no longer active. I'm pretty sure he still makes them. Email him at the address I posted above.

I used shellac, got it from the auto parts store. That and a new pair of clamps, fatter than stock so they don't fit perfect in the grooves but they don't bend like the stock ones do. Anyway, I'd have to check back with you over time to report their success but so far it's worked to clear my leaks.

The O.P. is referring to the air box boots, not the inlet manifolds.
