1 hot cylinder
« on: February 08, 2018, 07:08:08 AM »
So I did my winter warm up last night for the 78 cb750.  Started right up and left it on 1/3 choke and went inside for a bit.  When I could hear that it was ready to idle down I went out and found cylinder 4 exhaust was glowing while the others were fine.  Is that because the bike was on kickstand and #4 was on the high side, therefore getting less oil?
thoughts?
It cooled down when I idled it down and went for a little spin, ran great.

If just one exhaust pipe was glowing and hot and the others were not she is trying to tell you something. Could be a carb problem, valve out of adjustment or something else going on in that cylinder bank. A good easy start would be to pull the spark plug and see what color it is and maybe compare to the #1.

Not likely to be oil related. Possibly the #4 choke plate is not closing so it was running leaner than the other three? Hotter generally means leaner. The exhaust valve could also be sticking or adjusted a bit open allowing the burning charge to blow out to the header during power stroke?

Hasn't been run in a few months, so I'm gonna start at the carbs to check out any blockages. Might try an additive first to see if it clears up.

dakota, if you're not already doing so stick a fan in front of the fins while you're letting it warm up.

That helps keep it from overheating.
