« on: February 07, 2018, 11:40:27 AM »
Does the 71 cb750 have the "preserve nature" decal on the gas tank in front of the filler cap ?

Yes.  I know.  I peeled mine off 22 years ago.  Ah, sweet bird of youth.

I have few k1 tanks with original paint. None of them has any stickers. Even stripe is painted not sticker.

This is where originality and parts verification gets ...interesting...especially for judging bikes.........for example, on the parts fiche page, for a K1, the label shows up as an individual part but the stripes do not. This tells me that the stripes were a painted part of the tank and not available as a separate part. Yet stripes do show up as available on the hondarestoration parts page and not just an aftermarket part number but with a “300” middle Honda code........but.......you say your tanks are original and unrestored I’m assuming, and without a sticker........who or what is correct?...
.....I’m just someone trying to learn......

It appears the answer is no.....the parts book page is from an original 1971 parts book that shows no decal.  The other pictures are from original, unrestored 71 350 tank and bike , a 72 new tank that doesn’t have a sticker, but the red 73 175 has a sticker ...along with the K1 tank previously mentioned with no sticker.......hope this helps...

It’s also on the fiche for a 69 750, yet the middle code for the sticker is 323... and that is for the 71 and up cb 500 four. So how can a sticker that wasn’t made until 1971 show up in a parts page for a 69?.....because the newer parts fiche have superseded parts and additions that Honda now wanted on their older parts but were not originally on the part......
That’s why I posted an original, parts page for a 71 750 that does not show the sticker. This parts book was published in 70, for the 71... so it shows what was on the bike in 71.....also, original tanks posted for that year show no sticker.
Could an original tank for that year have a sticker, sure...an NOS tank built in 75 for a 71 would probably have that sticker as Honda would be required to have it on there .
But evidence strongly supports that an original , 71, U.S. import 750 did not have a sticker originally from the factory....
So, if someone wants exact original for a 71, he wouldn’t have a sticker on his tank, it appears....

Lol.....yep, most people didn’t and removed them, plus washed off those yellow paint marks from the factory.........but not everyone did.......and I’m glad for that as that’s how I found my 75 550f in 1994, all original , stickers and all.....

And there’s the difficulty with judges.....and with Honda....a good judge at least can admit they might be wrong. Some can’t...one year, Honda paints the stripes, next year ,they didn’t. Memories get clouded, people stretch the truth, and then there is always big egos that can’t be wrong.......
I know that finding and using parts books for that year ,published prior to that year for that bike is the closest you can get to a determination of authenticity. That, and being an honest original owner....if not the original owner, then it becomes up to the current owner to prove authenticity........
And sticker on a K2?....can’t argue that one as I haven’t seen an original parts book for that year.....

As I stated, I had a sticker on mine.  It was built 8/71.  The stripes are stickers also.  These bikes seem to change thru the year.  I have 341 pipes and 120 jets.  Those seem to be k2 specs. Go figure.

That build date may be k2 model. Can you share your frame and engine numbers?
