anyone record videos while riding? what do you use?
« on: March 02, 2018, 09:44:40 PM »
I'm thinking of getting one of those cheap(er) camera glasses, with remote so I can operate it with a helmet on. I also intend on using it for YouTube videos whatever diy projects. you can get them with 1080P 30fps decent video quality so I've gathered from reviews, and optional remote. I never liked the bulky anti ergonomic design of gopro's. But I'm not really familiar with what else if any people use for this purpose. what do you use?

I am partial to holding my old Canon ELPH in my left hand while steering with my right. ;)

oh you definitely need a proper cam if you do this often. you ought to consider these camera glasses, $30-$150.  That's beautiful, where were/are you? can't get that scenery in FL!

ah, "moki dugway" Utah. I've considered mkving there. I should at least visit. Read Utah was one of the safest post apocalyptic places to live lol.

sweet. where are you(where they drive on the wrong side of the road)? edit: ah, the land down under

okay, so that's like a go pro and being "sports" cam it's waterproof  and rugged and all that. Not exactly what I'm looking for as I want the head the head mount capability, without the bulk. bjt the glasses aren't waterproof that I've found. thanks for sharing

Have GoPro's and a couple Ion AirPro 3's. Both take stellar video. The sound on the GoPro is a bit better.

That's because it already looks like an apocalypse happened there lol...
I run an ION cam I bought cheap, $30 shipped, 1080P works pretty well. I handlebar mount it on the race bike, and on the Concours for touring.

You can pick up the Ion cheap on eBay these days.

Contour bought them out, and pretty well just rebadged them as Contour.

I use the DRIFT HD170 camera.  I have the older version that doesn't have the connectors exposed, but rather has them behind a water proof DOOR.  That means that when I have the external Microphone connected, the rear water proof door is open.  I just have to remember to disconnect and close it if I encounter any rain.  I mount it to the right side of my helmet, and have an external microphone plugged in and tucked inside my helmet so there's no wind noise, and the sound is WAAAAAAY better than ANY of these "sport cams" can offer, brand not specific.
What I also like about this camera is the ability to rotate the lens so that the image being recorded is not tilted in any way.  I like mounting it to the helmet, and not stationary so I can record what I'm looking at and not making a boring video of the yellow road stripe or the like.
I ride a GOLDWING all the time now, and I usually have my wife with me and the intercom going.  With the microphone tucked in the helmet next to the intercom speaker, I can record conversation and sometimes music too.
The DRIFT camera has a remote control that you wear like a watch.  Battery life is amazing, and you can pop in and out the battery in seconds, so I keep a charged spare all the time.  Charges up with a USB cable, and comes with other cables to hook up to a TV with a HDMI connection.
DRIFT has come out with improved versions since I bought mine over 5 years ago, and I recommend them.  2 thumbs up.
