Hi From Derbyshire, England
« on: February 10, 2018, 09:44:49 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm a retired firefighter from the UK and have been into bikes all my life? Started off with a Greeves trials bike when I was 16  and ride an MV now. I enjoy restoring older bikes and have just finished a Kawasaki KH500 which I'm looking forward to getting out on the road. But I have always had a thing for the Honda CB750, until 5 years ago I owned a lovely Candy Gold K2 which I sold and have regretted ever since. So I have just taken delivery of a pretty rough 1971 Valley Green K1 31,000 miles  which I intend to restore and have already started to take apart. All my experience with motors so far has been limited to two strokes so I have joined The forum to hopefully glean some information, tips and advice from you all when I start to dismantle the motor.  Who knows I may be able to contribute myself when I'm done! So thanks for having me ! 👍

Cheers Guys,
I forgot to mention that the bike was brought to the UK late last year from Lake City, Michigan? I got it last week and after changing some very dirty oil and the filter(the spring was between the filter and engine case!)  it started and ran. It was popping and banging a bit but ran ok, so at least i know it goes before I take it apart. The pictures below will give you some idea of the condition it is in. The clutch isn't working and there is an oil leak from the cylinder head so it needs some TLC.

Welcome from Texas.    Looks like you are off to a good start.

I've restored a couple Kawasaki's (H1 & H2), these Hondas are a piece of cake compared!
The bottom ends are nearly bulletproof, no need to split the cases.   If it's running, check compression, you may only need to hone and re-ring?

Post a pic of your KH, is it a '76?

Hi Stev-O
That's good to hear, the less I have to do on the motor the better!

Yes it is a 76 KH, although ive painted it in H2 purple because I love that colour! it has the H1F air filter arrangement and I've rejetted it to H1F settings.

Thanks,
Wow lovely bikes also! You've obviously invested a lot of time  and effort into them.. looks like you have enough bikes to open a shop!  Wish I had room for a few more!
Yes I've already spent a few quid at David Silvers when I had my K2.
Next stop the project shop!

I'm better at buying than selling!   I love the 2 stroke "smokers", bought a couple last year, a '66 Suzi X6 Hustler and a '73 Kaw S2 350.  The Suzi is a runner but the S2 will need a total restore...

Lake City is in the northern third of Michigan's lower peninsula.  It has a beach that is so gradual you have to go out 50 yards to get the water above your knees.

Sounds good! I think I have about a bucket full of Lake City sand/soil that came with the bike along with a few unidentifiable dead bugs !  :)
