Lotus Root or DSS Repops
« on: October 06, 2017, 06:22:20 AM »
I am trying to decide on which exhaust would be  the best for my K1 750. Hoping someone here will have the experience to comment on this.
How do the Yamiya Lotus Root compare to the David Silver Spares HM300P that are currently being sold.  Basically comparing quality and performance/sound. Due to the substantial price difference I am wondering if the cost for Lotus Root is worth it.

I have tried both models from Yamiya. No numbers (HM300 replica) and Lotus root.
HM300 gave more rwhp on the dyno than Lotus Root, what a bad surprise!  ???  Both without baffles/diffusers. 93 vs 88 rwhp.
I expected some more hp up to +9000rpm. Opposite, a few hp less earlier in the rpm range.
(1005cc, ported head, cam 32mm carbs etc, etc.)

The No numbers with diffusers in will most likely get less hp than Lotus Root with them in.
(I updated the Lotus root diffusers for better flow before the last dyno run with them in, too loud without. Fun for a while.)

If your bike is a std CB750:  Go for the less expensive No Numbers (HM300 replicas). You can run them with diffusers in, I tried with diffusers and without the wool with 836cc, ported head cam etc, but too restrictive. Sandcast bike is another thing since it might been delivered with them from the very beginning. The first 4100 something....

Lotus root with drilled diffusers  work rather good despite less rwhp, the torque is fine. This on a 1005cc engine and all other mods.

I'll use the No numbers with a std CB750 K2.

My 1005cc engine need a 4-2-1 to relieve the hidden ~100rwhp and wild running engine up to at least 9500rpm  8) :o

Pewe, thank you for your insight. I did read some of your posts on your experience with the lotus root, which is what got me thinking that this may be the best selection. Especially being I have an early K1 bike. I want it to sound and run similar to my K1 bike I had 47 years ago.

I am finally close to ordering repops for my K1, and I am trying to decide the best option between these 3 pipes. Yamiya Lotus root M065S or K0 comp set no number M066S and DSS HM300P.
There is clearly a price difference but I am wondering about other things like quality or fitment ect. Why are the Lotus roots almost $800.00 more than the KO comp set? Also I think that the DSS pipe will ship out of the USA and the cost of shipping adds to this.
I want to thank PeWe for his input on the HP comparison's of the Yamiya pipes!

I will be restoring my K1 later this year and also will need exhaust.

Not sure why you are even considering the lotus root exhaust?

The DSS repop seems the way to go, at least for me.   What I don't like is it does not come complete, the heat shields, gaskets, sealing rings or clamps with it, an additional $300 if you need them.

I've bought two aftermarket exhausts for my Kawasaki's, the price was comparable to the base price of the DSS, but came with everything that was needed.

The no number DSS pipes I got were Yamiya. I'm sure because I got 2 of one pipe and they sent the missing one from japan. And David said they were.

Thanks for the responses, sort do what I thought. The DSS re pops are moving to to the top of the list.
Think I will call and speak with their tech folks instead of stalking them.
