Sandcast oil tank question.

I just saw pics of a tank, it seemed odd.
Where the oil filler hole went in the tank body had a peak that stuck out 3/4 inch past the filler neck.
Is this normal?

tried to isolate the oil tank from that photo known as Anatomy of a Sandcast
hope it helps.
cb750sandcastonly.com only mentions changes to the grommets
