Topic: Could you replace stock batt with cordless tool batt

Just wondering if anyone has done some tinkering with cordless tool batteries , they are quite compact and readily available ........or am I'm just insane

If it is a 12v battery, and you can gain access to the terminals for a good connection, I don't see why not. The Li-Ion type would be interesting, and not sure how they would hold up to constant charging, the NiMh might be a better choice in that respect, but they weigh a lot more than LI-Ion. Why not try it, and give us a report? The least is, it doesn't work, the most would be.. " My bike caught fire like a Samsung Note cell phone!" Hehe...

If you solder leads to the charging posts and run kick only/LED lighting it should work. Only issue would be finding a strongenough 12v batt. It would be very similar in concept to the Antigravity Batteries. Just dont try a lith ion battery. Thats a explosion waiting to happen. Charging for those is much different.

Lithium Ion in tools are generally the A123 metal cased cells and they are not the fire hazard of the other Lithium chemistries. Capacity for a single cell is generally around 2400 mAH per cell, so that could require a 4S2P pack setup instead of a 4S1P of simple battery packs without extended life.

A battery management board can be used on a lithium battery to control the possible over or under charge conditions as well as the charging and the power discharge.  Study these boards carefully, but you can buy them on eBay...just read the details carefully and educate yourself before embarking on such a adventure.  A bike fire is nothing to sneeze at and lithium fires are very difficult to extinguish as they will still combust underwater.
