CB550 frame plate
« on: November 17, 2017, 10:21:41 AM »
Can anyone tell me what this is....Looks like some kind of build plate held on with tiny rivets... Can it be removed?

It’s on the tube that leads from the top of the shock down towards the swingarm on the right side of the bike

Not stock. Looks like someone removed the side cover tabs and got a little giddy with the grinder and made a plate to cover it up.

Be careful removing - it could be the only thing holding that part of the frame together. 1/2 kidding :)

I’ll take it off when it comes to powder coating the frame

yes that's the spot where the vin plate is mounted on the euro models.
don't know what the law is in your neck of the woods but you probably should have this on the bike in legible shape. i agree with stryn, whoever did this was a bit of a knucklehead.

Yeah... I’m discovering quite a few knucklehead modifications since I bought it... I’m learning new stuff fixing them though, so it’s not all bad

It’s got a frame number and an engine number which is enough to comply with the law in the U.K.

To be fair, when I get the frame powder coated, it won’t be going back on
