1977 Honda Cb750K 30,000MI Questions
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:42:41 PM »
I've recently been restoring it after it sat for 26 years in my grandfathers garage he bought it in 1977 brand new and rode it into Canada and put the 30,000 miles on himself. Lately I've spent time cleaning the carbs and then rewired the fuse box with new pins and everything. I've bought new plugs and she ran nicely for a little while but recently when i started her up again it seemed that one of the cylinders #1 wasn't firing and there was definitely a loss of power. As you can see in the pictures she did look a little rough but then i cleaned her up nicely and looks beautiful.
so my questions are as follows
1. I'll need new mufflers give any advice or at least muffler tips as you can see in the photos there is some that are rotted away
2. what could cause cylinder not to fire(there was old gas in the tank maybe culprit, but i did drain it)
3. Tires i would like to get some new tires before i can take it on the main roads
4. I need side covers as the old ones cracked when i tried to take them off.

Below i have posted some pictures of the work i have done and would like your opinions as well as a video walk around of it running pretty smoothly let me know what you think i'm somewhat new to motorcycle maintenance and this forum and Youtube has been my friend

If one cylinder is not firing(was that verified by checking spark?) a likely culprit could be the spark plug end not fully engaged with the wire.  Take spark cap off and trim a tad off the wire then check again...Larry

+1 - check the easy stuff first. I bought my 550 running on 3, took a chance, threw a new plug in and boom - no problems.

Does sound like it's running on 3 cyl.  Do the 3000 mile tune up, you know it needs it.
Get it running great, then take off that rairing and rack, get a seat cover and you have a good looking bike!

Check ebay - those exhausts turn up regularly...

You can hear it not running as well and the pipe is cool to the touch but thanks for the tips I will try them next time I can work on the bike.
