        All right scondon,

You take good care of Rita now Good to know that you are there close by and thanks for letting Jeff know that we're trying to bring it together for him. God knows he needs some relief. We're all pulling for him.

                                                  Later on, Bill :) ;)

Scondon,

When you get Rita please be sure you keep us posted with what you need to get her right and in tip top shape.

Many of us here have quite a collection of parts.

Let us know what you need and perhaps some of us can come up with it.

Yeah mate, of course he is,he's a top bloke,  but every now and then I feel it necessary to reel some of my seppo mates back in when they start getting "emotional", ya know?  ;D

Well the fund is certainly getting there...  And while it's not much, the donation from this (literally) broke college student living on ramen and beans, I hope it helps.  (HEY!  If I can do it, I know some of you old farts can afford it!  ;D)

Dusthawk, your situation is sobering, and while I don't know you I know you will pull through it all.  Good people always turn out OK, even when the worst things happen to them.

First of all, a big thumbs up to Glenn for starting this..
Hey Jeff,
I went through similar circumstances 15 years ago, lost my left hip , knee and most of the bone in between.
I ended up losing my house due to all the extra medical costs, they told me I might never be able to walk again and here I am walking and riding again.
Take your recovery one day at a time and  never lose faith that you`ll get back on the road with Rita.
It always helps to have family support and it looks like you`ve got one BIG family here  ;)

         Einyodeler,

You are a true inspiration. ;) You are a fine example of determination. My hat's off to you
guy. I thank God for guys like you who, even when you're down , you get right back up and go
after it again. You've got my admiration and I know that Jeff can do the same.

Rita is Safe!!!!!!!!!!

I wish kudos were still a part of this forum as both Lee and Scondon earned a bucket full this evening. Lee and I got together late this afternoon and went to pick up Rita in his truck. I had my conserns as Rita is a pretty long bike, but Lee never batted an eye. When we got to where Rita was parked, Lee grabbed his trusy tape measure and my jaw almost hit the pavement, Rita was a good eight feet long from front wheel to the rear fender, WOW :o :o  Well, long story shortened a bit for time, Lee managed to get Rita up the ramp with what little assistance I could provide and we got her tied down so solid she was almost a part of the truck.

A short ride later and we pulled up to Scondons place and here he comes, walking down the driveway like the Lone Ranger, and I'll tell you what, it was a shock seeing him after all these months. All you guys who met him at the Northern California SOHC4 Meet and Greet will remember him as a long haired laid back guy, well, he now looks way different, he cut his hair way down, almost office type!!!

Anyway, there we were, getting Rita unloaded and she was just calm as could be, she knew she was someplace safe, and just knowing she was safe, I felt better too. I know I am anthropomorphosizing her a bit much, but thanks to every single one of you out there in SOHC-land she and I can continue our friendship for years to come. She is as much a part of me as you guys are, and I don't know what I'd do without your support. I have no idea what I can ever do to repay all of you, but dog-gone it, I love you guys(and gals). (Just imaging me saying that in a big gruff biker kinda way ;) )

Lee is a master polisher and Scondon had a nice valve cover sitting around so there is the first part of Rita's makeover already. After much discussion with Scondon and Lee, a partial list of needed parts is here, a set of rings .025 over-stock, a set of pistons .025 over-stock, an upper gasket set, intake and exhaust valves and springs, Airpods(Ritas New pods were stolen in the last week or so.). That is mostly all Rita needs, the rest is mostly cosmetic stuff, getting rid of unsightly paint in head scratching places, and the like.

Anyway, just thought I would keep all of you posted on the saving of Rita and as soon as I can I'll give more updates. Time for me to crash out though, meds, what a wonderful thing, eh?

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

Now that Rita is safely tucked away, Jeff, you can concentrate on mending to the point that you can get back to the life that you deserve. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you big guy. ;)

                                                     Bill

And a special thanks to you guys (Lee & scondon), for picking up Rita.

You know, I just might have need of you as well MRieck. Since Rita is getting new pistons and rings, doesn't it make a ton of sense that she get one of your World Famous Heads? Not one of your Super Duper Kick the Pants off the neighbor heads, but a nice little stocker head with cleaned up porting? Give me a call and lets see what we can work out, I'll PM my digits.

Just when I had lost faith in mankind. Nice one guys.  :)

I don't know why y'all are *that* surprised.  Every single day people on this forum give generously of their knowledge, experience, time, and sometimes resources to help previously total strangers.  I've pointed it out in my house as one of the better examples of the innate goodness of people (which I believe, yes, is a Godly spark in all people).  The forum pitching in for Dusthawk is, I think, just a natural evolution to performing an even greater good.

Dusthawk, you are blessed not only for having such fine friends; but also for being the catalyst that brings out all this good in them.

Okay y'all, I'll stop being sappy and preachy now...  :-X

I have never met DH but maybe someday....And I agree with BobbyR, it's the getting back up that counts. I'm amazed at all you guys and I think this forum has brought out the best in its members.

We have a Maori expression down here which sums this all up.. " Kia kaha, Arohanui" which roughly translates to "strength, be strong, love, peace"

Hey dusthawk.  I don’t know you or you me but can relate to you’re situation as having suffered a work related injury myself, so I know how mentally and financially draining an injury can be. I cannot think of any words of encouragement that have not already been said.  It sounds as if things are starting to work in your favor and hope it continues for you.

Well, to be honest I'm not "that" suprised. I have found since I started riding a few years back that generally the bike(r) community is an awesome one to be part of. Its like joining some sort of secret brotherhood where guys who might not otherwise give one another the time of day will give you the shirt of their back if they think you need it. Its a strange social phenomena but awesome at the same time. Whats happening here is just another example. :)
