Rita is Safe!!!!!!!!!!I wish kudos were still a part of this forum as both Lee and Scondon earned a bucket full this evening. Lee and I got together late this afternoon and went to pick up Rita in his truck. I had my conserns as Rita is a pretty long bike, but Lee never batted an eye. When we got to where Rita was parked, Lee grabbed his trusy tape measure and my jaw almost hit the pavement, Rita was a good eight feet long from front wheel to the rear fender, WOW
Well, long story shortened a bit for time, Lee managed to get Rita up the ramp with what little assistance I could provide and we got her tied down so solid she was almost a part of the truck.
A short ride later and we pulled up to Scondons place and here he comes, walking down the driveway like the Lone Ranger, and I'll tell you what, it was a shock seeing him after all these months. All you guys who met him at the Northern California SOHC4 Meet and Greet will remember him as a long haired laid back guy, well, he now looks way different, he cut his hair way down, almost office type!!!
Anyway, there we were, getting Rita unloaded and she was just calm as could be, she knew she was someplace safe, and just knowing she was safe, I felt better too. I know I am anthropomorphosizing her a bit much, but thanks to every single one of you out there in SOHC-land she and I can continue our friendship for years to come. She is as much a part of me as you guys are, and I don't know what I'd do without your support. I have no idea what I can ever do to repay all of you, but dog-gone it, I love you guys(and gals). (Just imaging me saying that in a big gruff biker kinda way
)
Lee is a master polisher and Scondon had a nice valve cover sitting around so there is the first part of Rita's makeover already. After much discussion with Scondon and Lee, a partial list of needed parts is here, a set of rings .025 over-stock, a set of pistons .025 over-stock, an upper gasket set, intake and exhaust valves and springs, Airpods(Ritas New pods were stolen in the last week or so.). That is mostly all Rita needs, the rest is mostly cosmetic stuff, getting rid of unsightly paint in head scratching places, and the like.
Anyway, just thought I would keep all of you posted on the saving of Rita and as soon as I can I'll give more updates. Time for me to crash out though, meds, what a wonderful thing, eh?
Peace and Long Rides,
Jeff
