From the donation page: "The money collected through the link below will go directly to Jeff in a couple of weeks." What's the deadline on this? I want to contribute but I don't get paid until Thursday night.

This group... well, let's just say I'm proud to be a part of it. You guys are the coolest!

I'm planning to get a first installment to Jeff by the end of the week.  There are some mail-in contributions expected yet so I'll send him another installment around the end of next week.

I will update the tally sometime in the next 24 hours - last count has us around $900.  Contributions have pretty much stalled; if anyone is still thinking about this, send $1 if that is all you can afford.  Every dollar helps.  If you want to do it by mail, send it to:

Glenn Stauffer
500 College Avenue
Swarthmore, PA 19081

As long as contributions come in, I'll get them to Jeff.

My little bits on the way Glen. That is if that uS mule doesn't fall in the Potomac and
drown. Glad to hear that Rita is safe.

Not to fill Glenn's mailbox, but just think, all anyone needs to do is slip a $1 bill in and envelope and drop it in the mail. Oh, yea, and a $0.39 stamp. ;)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Maybe it's just me, but Rita looks a bit Sheepish up in Lee's truck, but just look at her smile sitting in Scondons driveway, knowing she is safe as a kitten with her mama!!! Yes, I am probably personifying her a bit much but I love the old girl, I can't help it, lolol.

More pics to come, of course, and I think I've come up with a way to thank every single one of you who have been and will be so generous in our time of need. I'll have to discuss it with Rita but I'm sure She'll love the Idea. Down the road, a year or so from now when I am stable again and back to work, I am going to have her tank and fender re-painted a white pearl color, with a red and gold race stripe on each side bordered with black, and the SOHC4 logo on the tank sides. On the fender, with Glenns help, Every member who contributed will have his or her namewritten in gold script.

Also, even though I put new sprockets on her, a little input would be welcomed as far as new sizing. She has a 17 tooth on front and a 45 on back. Would I get better mileage if I went 18 front and 41 or 42 rear?

Jeff

P.S., that spot on the driveway under Rita's kickstand was there before we put her there, really, she wasn't marking her territory, she knows it is only temporary.

sound in her new accommodations.

I knew someone was gonna ask one of these days ;D

Rita is decked out with a late model reproduction early style mid length sweeper HD fender, a late model tail light, a full set of early style bullet turn signals(check the handlebars for the fronts), the tank is a Sporty peanut, the tank is an old school custom HD tank, the handlebars are 16(yes, sixteen) inch rise internally wired, the hand controls are early model round button HD, the forks are twelve inch over length narrowglide style springer.

I would like to find a new tank to fit her with, I bought a 4.5 gallon FXR tank with dash mounts about a year ago, but it was stolen along with everything else in my van. The tank she has is only about two gallons, enough for an 80 mile trip, or maybe more when we get her runnin right. But, then again, thats down the road after I get back on my feet.

"personifying" ~ anthropomorphizing
Sorry, I can't help myself...

I vote for thanking everybody after you get rich. Fly eveyone out to your palatial digs for a BBQ.  I'm assuming your private jet willl accomodate one of our bikes for a group ride while we're there.  Just a thought.

Lord have mercy Jeff.  I don't know how to do the PM thing well, but if you thought it, maybe everybody else is thinking it too.
I did NOT intend to denegrate what is happening here by suggesting you might get rich off this project.  If you go back far enough- I suggested it.  I gave a bunch of money and I'm irritated there's not at least $2K in the pot by now.  Right now, asleep in my living room, is a guy trying to get a job so he can afford to live in a halfway house.  Alcohol has turned his brain to mush and he smokes cheap cigarettes that stink like cat#$%* on a hot day.  (He better get a job soon, too!) I give money to a shelter for battered women and Meals On Wheels.  Why?  Because I haven't worked in 4 months.  No matter how bad it gets- somebody has it worse.  People have been there for me along the way.  If I didn't do what I can, there's no reason for me to take up space- I have no talents, skills, or good looks.  Well- OK- I can sit on an icecream cone and tell you what flavor it is.  Baskin Robbins never got back to me...
In short- I was kidding. Referring to when you get to be a rock star or major golf pro.  Do what it takes to get your act together now and when the time comes, hold your hand out to someone yourself.  Right now- take the money and run.  I was not making any negative judgements whatsoever.
Well, OK- your spelling maybe... I hope I spelled something wrong for Heffay to remind me about my humanity. I think he thought I was kidding about the sstabbing pains  ;)

That's my 3rd Chief.  You just have to look and be patient.  I found this by writing all the clubs.  One put my letter in their newletter and a member saw it and wrote to me.  His last line was, "I really need the money, so don't worry about making a low offer."   It was 2 days before I could calm down enough to call him.  I did make a reasonable offer though.  He thought he had restored it, but as I walked around, I could see things that I'd be able to fix.  Unfortunately, I couldn't see that he put a piston in backwards...
It looks like this now after a car T-boned me and I sort of wanted a bobber anyway.
If you're serious, contact every place that sells parts or does repairs, Walnecks, What's the name of that big magazine that has ads for all kinds of antiques... shoot. Well, most folks here would remember the name. Magazine stores sell it and it has a brown cover- looks sort of like a smaller brown phone book.  Antique Motorcycle Club, and yeah- Evil-Bay.  Even local ads. We have one called the Iwanna and there's one now for too much IMO.
Whatever happens- bring cash. Most times you can get a slightly lower price if the seller is itchy.

we have what is called the "old bike ride" here in denver and surrounding areas every summer.  during our last outing two guys were riding a couple of old indians... one was a 1938, the other a 1946.  on our way back into denver via lefthand canyon outside of boulder, on of them nearly highsided due to a deer in the headlight.  we have dvd's with footage of the encounter.  quite a bone-chilling thing to watch when it is one of your own.  anyway, they have some really old indians  ;D
