I hope you guys are all happy, I have everyone here at the shelter laughing their collective asses off at me cuz when I saw what this posting turned into, I couldn't help it and some ''water'' leaked out of my eyes, must have been the pepper I put on dinner or something, yeah, thats the ticket, it was the pepper!

I got a personal message from Scondon earlier and I spoke to him this evening. He let me know he has some room for Rita if I can get her to his place. This might work well as I called Lee, another great member whom many of the West-Coaters have met from the Meet and Greet back in June and the end of August Summer run in Marin, And it looks like I might have a way to get Rita over to Scondons' on Sunday in Lee's truck. If I can get her there, Scondon would be willing to help me wrench on her and getting her back to being road ready.

Scondon also told me what some of you'se guys is doin' and I gotta tell ya, I don't know if I should be glad, mad, sad, or ashamed. I feel all of the above but I guess I would have to be honest and just admit to my shame above all else, having admitted where I now live. A couple of you knew what my living situation was back in June through August, I was living in my van at the time, trying to save enough for a shared apartment or something, but like all good intentions, they never go unpunished. I was arrested in early September for a warrant on my suspended license, Thank god I wasn't driving at the time. I got to the court room and worked out a deal with the judge, three tickets got reduce somewhat to just over $2,000 in fines which he turned into community service hours and a $300 fine, paid that part and now I'm trying to find someone to find a use for a disabled guy to get the hours done. After that, I get the license back, and the final ticket will be reduce to about $700. Yeah, you guessed it, when I screw up, I go all the way and do it to perfection. Then, on top of all that, my van got towed and impounded, but that was after someone broke in and cleaned me out of all my software, biker clothes, and a bunch of my extra parts for Rita. So, what else could I do, I signed the van over to the tow company and bid it farewell.

Well, that was September. Now, I still have a bunch of hours to do but the worst of the fines are paid. That just leaves me dealing with all the rest, I'll find someone who needs data entry or something and get the hours worked off. I'll still be going to Physical therapy three and four times a week, and two different doctors once a week or so. Scondon was good enough to remind me that the roof I have is better than the roof I had.

Now, it is time I focused on a few of you:

To the venerable Glenn Stauffer, I met you in person in June and can say in all honesty to the entire membership of SOHC4, you are one Hell of a guy. I'd be willing to bet that Bob Wessner and many others would agree with me on that. Thank you, for your friendship, but especially for the shot glass ;D, yes, I got it and it is safe at a friends place. I want to know if and when you make it back out here, I'll think of something to return the friendship soon, but I can't think of anything good enough right now.

Terry in Australia, damn pepper keeps messing with my eyes here, what you offered was like a ton of bricks dropped on me. When you do decide to row yourself across the pond, you'll have first dibbs to let Rita give you the ride of your life. Are you six foot tall or more? Rita has some wicked tall handle bars and you gotta be able to hold her in check.

Dusterdude, can't forget to include you in my thanks, as verbose as you are, we all know that you are damn good people. I am honored to call you friend.

UncleErnie, You can usually be counted on for a kick in the pants gut buster laugh, but I gotta say, your words of support go a long way to making me wish I never used pepper for my dinner, got to get some more kleenex.

BurmaShave, your words of support mean a great deal to me, and of course, that pepper got in my eyes again. ;)

Bob Wessner, A fellow Michigander whom I hold in high regard and with great respect, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To Littleitaly52 and Cmorgan47, I most humbly apologise to you both, I failed you in the worst way. I promise both of you patches way back when, but then my van got ransacked and then towed, yep you guessed it, all my patches and pins were in there so one of these days I'll have to order up a few more from Heffay. Did you contact him for patches and or pins? Did he get more in stock? If so, sometime closer to summer, I'll figure out a way to make it up to the both of you.

To everyone else who has replied, thank you for all the support and cheer, it really touches my heartknowing such good people.

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

P.S. I just did a preview on this posting and I almost died laughing, the only time I have ever written this much is when I was ranting and raving about something or other. Just goes to show, you guys bring out the best in people. Peace!

No worries Dusty, I'm 6'4", (I was actually 6'5" a few years back, but after my back injury I'm actually shorter now due to a couple of crushed discs) and 260 pounds, and have arms like an apes, so I'm really looking forward to taking Rita for a spin and getting some California sun in my armpits, ha ha! Sean Condon is becoming a very competent mechanic under Mike rieck's tutilage, so you'll be in good hands mate, for sure. Look after yourself Dusty, this is a great site and there's a real feeling of brotherhood here, so I'm sure the guys here will make sure that your bad luck is turned around. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I don't know you Dusty, but think positive and lets all hope that things get better for you.  I am fortunate to be able to leave you a small donation and I hope that with the money collected, this will will help you get back on your feet.

We always see the celebs etc, calling for donations for all the people and nations on hard times, but often the people that need a helping hand, just now and then are right on our doorstep....!!!

Also nice one Terry.

WTH?!  If everybody sent in ONE dollar, that would make over $2K right there.

Dusthawk- this is from the heart, man;  stop feeling sorry for yourself and /or ashamed RGHT NOW!  Playing the negative tapes you've been rolling in your head are hurting you.  Get mad and get tough.  Assume you will get better.  Your brain has an effect on all this.  I know because I should be dead myself.  If God has taken you this far, he's not done with you yet.  You got more to learn and something to teach.  Someone is watching you.  No matter who or where you are- someone is watching to see what you do.  Teach it, because you know.

Sorry if you already knew that, but that post up there had me worried.  You're a COBB* now. Maybe you won't "stand" proud, but you can still be pugnacious.

I know I'm going to get yelled at for this but so what- everybody can afford it and it's all for a good cause...

Sites I belonged to before required a donation membership fee for full access.  If you have a setup like that here, you could have had a slush fund for an occurrence such as Jeff's.  If it was $10, there would be $20,000 to play with.

Hey Dusthawk, like Uncle Ernie says, you're on the way back out of it now, so keep plugging away. There are guys all round the world pulling with you and that's what the community is about.

There are some things this can do internet that are just amazing, don't you think - I'm sitting here in England, don't know you, you've never heard of me..... but we care for each other, specially when things turn bad. Keep with it, and lay off that pepper now  ;D

Dust, the World is full of slippery spots and the laws of average dictate that sooner or later we will hit one and pull out or go down. If we go down getting back up is what is important. In the 1970's I thought the light of the World had gone out, well it did not, I just wasn't looking.

Like Ernie said, erase those tapes and start getting your S**t together. Scandon and the others can heal Rita, and Rita is a part of you and that can be part of the healing process.

If you are able to get around enough, I would hit some of the temp agencies to pick up some cash. For your Community Service, maybe you have a VA facility nearby and you can volunteer. Lord knows there are plenty of boys coming home damaged in many ways, perhaps spending some time with them would help heal you both.

To those who are lusting after a finned points cover on ebay, donate some of that loot you are hoarding. I saw your Bike and they won't look good on it.  :)
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

DH,

Keep your head up, and let others get your back - one day you may be able to do the same for one of us.  Bobby R makes a great point, spending time with Vets requires nothing but your heart, so your injuries should not be a factor.

Listen, I have been dealing with blood clots in my legs and lungs for the last 10 years (I am only 37) - it sucks, its a PITA, but you have to take care of yourself.  I am sure you realize how serious it is, and I do not want to make you feel worse, but that S%!^ can kill you fast.  Do what ever you need to keep a positive head, it will make all the difference in the world.  If Scondon and Lee can offer you this assistance, take it.  Rejuvenating Rita will allow you to keep a very important joy in your life, hopefully letting you get out of your funk.  I allowed myself to fall into a bad funk, and it damned near killed me.  Fortunately, I was able to pull myself out by taking care of myself and throwing myself back into the things I love, and also into concentrating on improving my professional and personal life.  It works, I can honestly say that my new attitude has brought me back from the brink.  Whatever it takes - do it.

Anyway, enough preaching (I hate when people preach to me - what a hypocrite I am).  We are all pulling for you, and look forward to your recovery.

Sincerely,

Gersh

Hey Dusthawk,

I think everybody on this site can relate to your situation in one way or another.

Even though I live in a different country, many miles from you, I have to help someone in need if I can.

When you're feeling down or in pain, just remember everybody that cares, we all want to see you back on Rita as soon as possible.

Ya know, I've been thinking.  It's a running joke at our house about my crying. Kathleen says I got a girl's organs because I cry at sappy commercials on TV, bad movies, cute puppy dogs, you name it.  That doesn't mean you can't be the toughest SOB in town.  I'd carve a sense of humour and send it to you, but they don't let me have sharp objects anymore.  Just pretend I did.
All right. I'm done.

I'm up for it Bobby, I just made a small donation, but if people are interested in donating to this excellent cause, I'll make this offer: If anyone buys one of my oil cooler adapters over the next month, I will donate $50.00 of the $75.00 purchase price to the "Save Rita" fund. Cheers, Terry. ;D
So Terry- the coolers aren't moving as expected, huh?  ::) ;D)

terry, you'll have your moula soon (i get my school financial aid disbursement on the 11th  ;) )

I'd second that and wish I'd thought of it.  The VA hospital nearest me does all it can to accomodate people who want to work some community service.  The vets are, of course, sterling, and I know someone who was healed very, very much by volunteering at at VA hospital.  They have a program called "friendly visitor."  I'm not sure if it applies to community service; however, if it does, it would be great for you and patients.  Basically, you agree to come to the hospital and spend time (lounge, game room, etc.) with vets.

         Jeff,

We've had some pretty good conversations since we've become acquainted (even though we've never met in person) and I feel like I know you pretty well from that. I sincerely hope you'll read all of these messages of Good Will and take them to heart like they were intended. You can do it dude. I'm sure it'll take time. Just take it one day at a time and, in time, you'll be back inline. Then you can work towards things like turning the cylinders around on a 750 motor. ;D If I remember right, that was the last project you were tossing around before your problems started bringing you down. Hang tough there guy. After all, there is only 1 Dusthawk and only 1 Rita and you 2 are destined to hit the highway again. So You Get On The Mend, Take Care And I'll Catch You Later On. ;)

Just a quick update. I don't know how easy it is for Jeff(Dusthawk) to get online these days but I have spoken with him on the phone and let him know that you guys are really coming to his aid. Hopefully he'll pop in here soon.

In the meantime, Lee has offered his services and his truck and will be hauling Jeff and Rita to my place tomorrow. So Rita now has a place to stay while Jeff is on the mend :)

Just reading all your posts has given me one of those "pepper" moments as well. It's good to have family. You guys are great.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
