A Visitor From the Past...
« on: February 18, 2018, 07:52:36 AM »
I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand.
A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand.
His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by my bed.
He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low, he said:

"We fought a revolution, to secure our liberty.
We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny.
For future generations, this legacy we gave.
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

"The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep.
But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep.
Your freedom gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave.
In this, the land of the free and home of the brave.

"You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun,
Permits to start a business, or to build a place for one.
On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent.
Although you have no voice in choosing, how the money's spent.

"Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate.
Your Christian values can't be taught, according to the state.
You read about the current news, in a regulated press.
You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the I.R.S.

"Your money is no longer made of Silver or of Gold.
You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make our Nation, turn from God in shame.
You've taken Satan's number, as you've traded in your name.

"You've given government control, to those who do you harm,
So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm,
And keep our country deep in debt, put men of God in jail,
Harass your fellow countrymen, while corrupted courts prevail.

"Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've sworn.
Your daughters visit doctors, so their children won't be born.
Your leaders ship artillery, and guns to foreign shores,
And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars.

"Can you regain the freedom for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage, or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save?
Or do you wish your children, to live in fear and be a slave?

"People of the Republic, arise and take a stand!
Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land!
Preserve our Great Republic, and GOD-Given Right!
And pray to GOD, to keep the torch of Freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from whence he came.
His words were true, we are not Free, we have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants, trample each GOD-Given Right,
We only watch and tremble, too afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood by your bedside, in a dream, while you're asleep,
And wonders what remains of our Rights he fought to keep,
What would be your answer, if he called out from the grave:
"IS THIS STILL THE LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE???"

Yes, indeed.  How things have changed, and I'm not pleased with the way things have done so.
Who was the author?

EDIT:
I did a bit of research and I found two instances of Thelen Paulk as the author, all others said author unknown.

I don't believe in #$%* all, in the way of a lord, human or supernatural, I believe though that it is my responsibility to educate my self to take responsibility for my actions, mental or physical, as far as government goes I'm paying my leaders a reasonable wage to lead and I expect them to discharge their duties properly, with vision and leadership not just for their friends but everyone in the country. As a background I have a rare form of fatal blood cancer and I have a Scottish and Canadian background. So what that means, is if I'm wrong (I should find out fairly shortly) and there is a supreme being I will take whatever is coming with as much grace as I can because it is and was my decision, but if there is a god you may hear me wanting to put him on trial for crimes against humanity. I will not claim the that all those that believe are weak or are using religion to escape responsibility for their actions, but I will claim that there is a percentage that are afraid to stand on their own rather than think.

A belief in a religion is not ,necessarily, the same as a belief in god........that being said...
My “ religious “ upbringing was all about self reliance and personal responsibility. I expect no one to owe me anything......
But your right, some religions have been used as crutches by some people......
God didn’t commit  the crimes against humanity, however, man did....
Sorry about your situation, that must be hard....

I have found that this life is 100% terminal... nobody gets out alive...so I am looking forward to the next one. And as far as religion goes, it is a stench in God's nostrils. As the Creator of all things, His thoughts are far above mine, and I am sure everyone else's. To have the ego that would make me think higher than someone Who could create a universe so vast and large, yet He could hold it in the palm of his hand... that's staggering. I believe we make God quite small, so we can put our thoughts into His mind, and say we know what we would do in His place... or charge Hime with crimes against humanity, when it is humanity who committed them, not Him. Humanity was under a sentence of death from the time that we rebelled against the One who created us. Rebellion, or sin, is against Him, and no-one else.
Religion is what man creates to describe a Creator... when it is Relationship that the Creator wants to have with us. I do think that we will be very surprised when we meet Him. And, be assured, we will meet him. If there is no God, and I am wrong, well.... it won't matter. But, if there Is a God, and I am correct, then those who haven't acknowledged that... are screwed. Plain and simple. I would rather live like there IS a God Who created all things, than live like there is none. It is said that He wishes none to perish... but if they do, it is because they chose to do so. And yes, it is a choice we all have to make. Will we surrender our control and acknowledge that He is God, or choose not to... that Is the Question.
Bill, I am sorry to hear about your cancer, I have had just a little one, prostate cancer, but it is something I have dealt with. I pray that you think about whether there is a God, and get to know Him, as He is a Person who can be talked to. And kudos for your personal responsibility, there isn't enough of that today...

I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand.

I had the realization some years back that it is a good thing we grow old and die, because the world will change into something we can't stand if we live too long.  Especially now as the changes come ever faster.  The reality is the more we pack ourselves closer together, the more regulation of the individual will happen.  Then there are the opportunities for the greedy and the power-mad to take advantage of the situation.  The only consolation I see is that people coming don't know any better, so won't chafe at  the anthill society that is coming as much because they won't know what they are missing.  In fact, they will prefer it because that is what they know and are familiar with.

Let's talk about that word... Believe. Broken down, it is ...
To BE... and To LEAVE
To Be is to exist, and To Leave is to not examine... So, you have Something that Exists, but you aren't going to Examine it...
This is a Belief.
Now, if all you do is Believe, someone with a convincing Argument... can change your 'Belief'.
What is Greater than a Belief...?
Knowledge. To KNOW is Greater than a BELIEF.
In Hebrew, the word used for Knowing... means a deep, intimate Relationship with the One known. It is Not a Belief. Men KNEW their wives, and bore children.
So, if you Know your CB750K0 is Candy Ruby Red, and someone tells you it is actually not that color, you can tell them that's not True. Because you Know Your Bike.
Those who Believe in Something, need to Know whether what they Believe in is True or Not.
Truth is absolute.. there isn't one thing True for me, and not True for you. That is the Truth.
So... to Believe isn't the same as To Know.
And, I agree that many haven't examined their Belief to see what or Who it is they Believe in... this leads in them using their Beliefs as crutches, to escape responsibility for their actions.
But to Know whether or not there is a Creator... Who is able to do all things and offer a relationship to each of us, isn't weak, nor is it escape.. on the contrary, it is the hardest thing a man or woman can do. It is difficult, as there are many who want to prove your Knowledge as wrong, so that they can justify a life that is contrary to what the Creator says you should be living, and escape responsibility for their actions... Sound Familiar...?
And that is the rest of the Story...

Charlie I don't particularly want to got war over this. As far as a creator goes I think it's a couple of cosmic high school students and shortly their teacher will come in say Ok enough what have you learned ? Fine then let's get on with it, flush the Petri dish and write up the results, marks for sticking with it and minuses for tormenting the Bacteria.
But it all boils down to what I think and what you think, most likely you in the time I have left are no going to change my mind, If there is a deity, I will present it with the proverbial "Order of the Rigid Digit" or in Canada the "Trudeau Salute" any how like I said no war, just going to put one foot in front of the other with my head tucked into my shoulder like a good little trooper as the Rhetorical fragments and splinters come my way.
Ahh Beer it's lovely.

I'm with Simon and Uncle Billy on this one.
But I respect and admire people who have their "Faith" in all it's forms.
What I won't wear are evangelists and zealots of any religion haranguing me.
OH......except Krishna's, they've got rhythm.  ;D ;D ;D

that’s kinda my point about religion and god. One is man made, one is a personal belief.

that’s kinda my point about religion and god. One is man made, one is a personal belief.
No scientist has ever explained the beginning existence of the mass of the universe, which is beyond immense. I exited religion decades ago...

All Creation testifies of God... that is what is told us, and it's true. When, not if, you look around you, there are all things that are created. And they all testify to a God Who Can And Does Love us... as all this was created for us.
Religion is a Stench In God's Nostrils... we are told this also. God never created religion, of any sort. He created man, and had a Relationship with him. That is what He desires above anything else. And yes, He IS A JEALOUS God... He wants us to Know Him, not know about Him.
Kinda like this... you have a Famous Person that you admire SO MUCH, that you start to learn all about him, (or her), and after years of research, you know where he lives, what he likes, his birth date, and who he married and what he named his kids (although Dweezle and Moon Unit are interesting, too :) )... now, one day you decide to visit him, and you walk up to his front door, press the doorbell, and he answers, and says...
"Who the Hell are You?" you state your name, and he says... "Go away, I don't know you" and shuts the door in your face... You see, you Knew About Him, But Never Knew Him... it is the same way with God. He wants us to Know Him, not know about Him... there is a BIG DIFFERENCE.
Religion is where we get to know about God, or a god... that's not what He wants.
Relationship is where we get to KNOW Him, as a Person. It is possible to do so, but first, you must acknowledge that He is real and exists... for, how is a man to Know God if he doesn't first know He exists. There is a scary thing, called predestination, and God designed it this way. There are some that are the Called... they have been Known by God from before the world was made, and He calls them to Him. Then there are those that He hasn't called, but still offers His Son to, as He wishes none to perish...
Now predestination means that it takes out of our hands any responsibility for our being one of His, as He did it all, so we can't boast it was ME that did it. Takes ego and pride right out of the picture.
Anyway, sorry about the long post, I have this Passion besides motorcycles, and like to share it also.

I am amazed that how easily people are tricked into selling themselves into slavery.

Proverbs 22:7 says, "The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender's slave."

Today everyone in America has no problem with being in debt to someone.

Either to student loans, car debt, credit cards, or mortgage debt aka debt slavery has just become a normal way of life, and we are ok with it.

We willingly trade our freedom to banks for worthless crap we don't need.

For what?

To work a job we hate, to buy crap we don't need, to impress people we don't like.

To me this is the definition of slavery.

To Bill,

I am a thinking man and I believe in God.  Even if you don't believe in Him Bill, He believes in you.  I am sorry for what may have happened to you in your past.  I would hope you reconsider your stance, as their is no need for you to pay the price twice.

He has already paid the debt if full.

Hope to see you on the other side.

Also Well Said... thanks, brother.
As Dan Akroid said in "The Blues Brothers", "We're on a Mission from God" lol...
I am amazed at people who evidently have rational thought until it comes to God. Then, they feel that if you do acknowledge there IS a God, YOU are the one who has stopped thinking when their own thought processes have atrophied on the subject.
What would a person have to lose, if they DIDN'T believe in God, and it turned out He Does Exist, and Everything they have been told is true... EVERYTHING.
What would a person have to lose if He didn't exist? NOTHING.
Now, THAT'S a NO BRAINER.
Pride and arrogance are two of our greatest enemies... Pride goes before a fall...the difference between humility and humiliation... is PRIDE. If you are humble, you cannot be humiliated, but if you are prideful, you can be humiliated.
I have humbled myself before an Almighty God now... rather than when I meet Him face to face, and have to then.

First of all I said I didn't want to go to war over this and backed away, my reasons I know that I am not as mentally sharp as I used to be (age), depression, (celtic/scots ancestry), pain ( disease), that will do for the moment, but it seems that the other side can't let it go, so be it if war is required fine I'm there, Yamahawk the fact that you initially posted what you did means that you wanted to put non Americans down so you believe in at least two mythologies American superiority and God now if you want to do that fine, but the polite thing to do would be keep it to yourself, because you can't fail to notice that there is a bunch of us that are not from America, and seldom do we state that politically we were born from a  glorious revolution my own country paid for it's political roots with blood in the first world war, (read about Vimy), the secound War ( read about the Netherlands and Canada ), Korea, (read about Kapyong ) The revolution being held up as the supreme example of God's love for Americans, thrilling, I have read of it it and god and I am not convinced, it sounds to me like an excuse to meddle in other peoples affairs, now if you want/can't let it go, I'm still ready aye ready, just don't expect the "tosh" to bow to either premise. Chew I don't give #$%* who believes in me, if a deity believes or not, is not going to get me, well, laid, or recognized as an original philosopher or perhaps a coffee, so time being short it means that anything superfluous is in the way. Now if a bunch of the lovelies in Bobby.R's post want to believe in me I could get on top of that but the rest, ecchh.
